General Baseball's best bullpen happy to be moving to new digs at Cinergy Field By Tony Jackson, Post staff reporter SARASOTA, Fla. - The new, 40-foot high center-field wall may be the most popular conversation piece at newly downsized Cinergy Field this year. But for the members of what is arguably baseball's best bullpen, the focus is on their new digs. Reds bullpen staff With Scott Williamson's role cleared up, here's the way the Reds relief corps shapes up: Danny Graves Reds top closer is Mr. Reliable. Scott Sullivan Middle-man puts in a lot of innings. Mark Wohlers Injury free, expects big season Dennys Reyes Only left-hander on staff. Scott Williamson
Still can't consistently throw strikes. John Riedling
Rookie is a power pitcher like Wohlers. No longer will Reds relievers watch home games from the dugout, secure in the knowledge that the bullpen is only a few steps away down the right-field line. Now, it's more traditionally located behind the right-field wall, and Danny Graves, Scott Sullivan, Dennys Reyes, John Riedling, Scott Williamson and Mark Wohlers will be down there from the first pitch. And loving every minute of it.

review policy advertising feedback ... The Cheap Seats Humbled in Anaheim
By Michael Couch Posted on 04-13-2000 A dejected David Cone was not perfect against the Angels last week. It can be difficult liking a team that plays all the way across the country, but being a Yankee fan in southern California, I manage. Now, before I receive any e-mail from readers accusing me of riding the Yankee “bandwagon,” let me make it clear that I have liked this team for 11 seasons now. When I was ten years old and starting to really like baseball, my favorite player was Don Mattingly. Thus, the Yankees became my favorite baseball team. I suffered through the losing seasons of the early ‘90s with the likes of Steve Sax, Alvaro Espinoza, Mel Hall, Jesse Barfield, Steve Balboni, and Andy Hawkins. Living in California, the only time I ever get to attend a Yankee game (besides 1998, when a friend and I flew to New York and saw two games in Yankee Stadium!) is when they are in town to play the Angels. I’ve been to about a dozen or so Angel-Yankee contests in the past decade. I was there when Mattingly got his 2,000th career hit against the Angels on July 23, 1994. This season, the Yankees opened their season in Anaheim with a three-game series against the Angels, so of course I had to go. I had purchased three tickets for the game on April 5, the third game of the series. Going with me was my girlfriend and my dad, who was a late replacement for my friend, Billy, who decided to sip margaritas in Mexico for Spring Break, instead.

The Yankees were only two outs from their fourth consecutive championship and fifth in six years when it suddenly fell apart. 1996 The King Of Swing The Braves had their closer on the mound trying to secure a 3-1 series lead in the eighth inning of Game 4, but Jim Leyritz blasted a three-run home run off of Mark Wohlers to help send the game into extra innings. The Yankees would win 8-6 on their way to another World Series title. 1993 Carter's Magical Blast Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joe Carter provided the dramatics as he launched an offering from Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Mitch Williams over the wall in left field and gave the Blue Jays an 8-6 Game 6 win and their second consecutive World Series championship.

History of the World Series - 1995 By Steve Marantz For The Sportng News OK, maybe we're premature. They just won their first World Series since 1957. But if we can agree that dynasties need not win four or five Series, as did the Yankees of the 1930s and 1950s, or even three, as did the A's of the 1979s, then we have a case. The definition of dynasty is no more graven upon Babe Ruth's Hall of Fame plaque than upon the icy equanimity of Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine. A Dynasty is judged by the standards of its era. If it walks and talks like a dynasty, then it probably is unless, of course, it's George Steinbrenner. Fact is, the Braves have yet to accomplish as much as the Blue Jays of '85-'93, Yankees of '76-'81, Reds of '70-'76 or Orioles of '66-'71. All won at least two World Series and, except for the Blue Jays, four pennants. But the point is not that the Braves are the best team of the last 30 years; it's that they are catching up with those teams. At minimum, the Braves are a dynasty-in-waiting. In five years they have won a World Series, three National League pennants and a division crown. In 1994, they were headed for no less than a wild card before players went on strike.

Baseball Fever American League Cleveland Indians PDA View Full Version : Mark Shapiro Chief Wahoo 07-14-2003, 05:55 PM Does anyone think that what Mark Shapiro is doing to the Indians is the least bit intelligent? bobfeller 07-18-2003, 08:58 AM Actually, I think he's doing all right. The team's doing a lot better than I expected, especially if you disregard that 0-9 west coast swing we had early on.
To what are you referring specifically? Chief Wahoo 07-18-2003, 07:25 PM It seems like he's worried more about keeping money than keeping talent. Also, I've been any Indians fan since the '95 Series (I was 7) and I'm really really really not used to them losing like this. I need someone to blame. Also, it seems strange to me how when the Jake sold out 462 straight games how the Tribe was losing money? I could very possibly be mistaken, but didn't $$$ troubles start when Shapiro started? Just a thought, please correct me if I'm wrong. Roody 07-22-2003, 06:51 AM I would have to disagree. I think Shapiro is doing a fantastic job. The way he is going about it is a little different then most other teams, but IMO you will see the benefits within 2 years.
The Indians are loaded with talent. It just needs time to develop.

Central tops .500 mark with sweep PELLA - The Central College baseball team ripped off its sixth straight Iowa Conference win after a 0-6 start, sweeping a doubleheader from Loras College on Saturday 4-1 and 7-5. The Dutch are now 15-14 overall and have vaulted into a tie for fourth place in the Iowa Conference at 6-6 after standing ninth 10 days ago. Loras tumbled to 11-20 overall and 3-9 in conference action. With just four league games remaining, the Dutch have positioned themselves for a possible second straight trip to the conference tournament in Cedar Rapids May 12-15. The top six teams advance. "We certainly decided to do this the hard way," said head coach Adam Stevens. "There has been nothing easy in the last couple weeks. The guys have definitely earned all these wins." Facing gusty winds Central was able to coax a pair of solid pitching performances from a pair of Valley High School grads, freshman
