R. Keith Williams Keith Williams made his seventh season with the Scarlet Raptors one of the best in the long history of Rutgers-Camden baseball as his team posted a 28-11 record (the second-highest victory total ever), reached the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs, peaked at No. 26 in the nation and posted four wins over nationally-ranked clubs in 2005. All that success helped Williams capture his 100th coaching victory at Rutgers-Camden and hike his career record over .500 at 125-124-1, climbing out of the 7-49 hole from his first two seasons when he was building the program. Since that time, the Scarlet Raptors have gone 118-74-1, posting four winning seasons in the last five years. They are the four winningest seasons in school history. The Scarlet Raptors won eight straight games from March 18-31, the second-longest winning streak in program history. They posted a 5-2 victory over Rowan University April 8 when the Profs were 16-0 and ranked No. 1 nationally, and they also went 2-1 during the year against NJAC regular-season champion Kean University, including a 6-5 comeback win in the conference playoffs May 6. Overall, the Raptors played nine games against nationally-ranked teams in 2005, posting a 4-5 record. The Raptors themselves reached No. 26 in the Division III national poll on March 29.

Maine Baseball 2004: The Recap
By Mike Marino
Jun 24, 2004, 19:17
The University of Maine Black Bears finished another season of success with their 2004 baseball team. The 2004 season for the Black Bears was busy with the new records being set, the advancing to the America East Championship yet again, all the players with all-honors, great hitting, outstanding pitching, and some more competitive America East Baseball.
The Maine Black Bears season came to an end in the America East Championship Game. In a close game against Stony Brook, the University of Maine fell short of winning the America East Championship Game by a score of 3-1. Matt Restivo of Stony Brook pitched brilliantly, throwing a complete-game four-hitter to give Stony Brook it’s first America East Championship.
Matt Devins of Stony Brook started the eighth inning rally that led to the Stony brook victory with a two-out walk. America East Championship Most Outstanding Player, Isidro Fortuna, followed the walk with a single to right field. Nick Theoharis then singled into shallow left field bringing in the go-ahead run. Kevin Solano then doubled to score another run to bring the score to 3-1.
Greg Norton
Greg Norton pitched for Maine in the game. He allowed three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in 7 and 2/3 innings pitched. Matt Restivo pitched a brilliant game for Stony Brook. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning when all-championship DH Matt McGraw singled with two outs. Restivo pitched a great game, and was credited with the win. The game was an excellent one in which Maine gave it their all and came just short of winning the America East Tournament. Either way, they finished off the season the way they played their whole season, by giving it their all.

In baseball there is what is commonly referred to as a five-tool player, that meaning that a certain player is able to run, throw, field, hit with power, and hit with consistency.  These players are also often known as "complete players," meaning that, even if they can't do any one thing better than any other player, they can do all five sufficiently well.  With Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays being the archetypes, it should be obvious that these kind of players aren't found very often.  Jack Williams is the musical equivalent of a five-tool baseball player. Let's call him a five-tool folk singer. Jack Williams, though the categories may be largely arbitrary without the benefit of statistical analysis that baseball allows, excels in all the areas that make a singer-songwriter complete: writing great lyrics, playing an instrument well, possessing a fine singing voice, composing melodically pleasing songs, and being well versed in more than one style of music so as to avoid redundancy.  One listen to Across the Winterline shows Jack Williams to be more than adequate in all these areas.

Ward, Williams lift Bucs past Brewers for second home-series win May 15, 2005
CBS SportsLine.com wire reports
PITTSBURGH Pittsburgh Pirates bench coach Pete Mackanin pushed the right buttons in his manager-for-a-day role, even if they probably were the same buttons Lloyd McClendon would have pushed. Daryle Ward homered and drove in two runs, and Dave Williams repeatedly pitched out of trouble to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 Sunday, the Pirates' ninth victory in 12 games. With McClendon attending daughter Schenell's graduation from Valparaiso University he planned to listen to the game via satellite radio Mackanin used four relievers after squeezing out 5 1/3 trouble-filled innings from Williams. The Brewers outhit the Pirates 12-6 but, much to Mackanin's relief, stranded 10 runners and committed three errors. "I'm nervous before every game, because I'm worried Mac will start yelling at me if we don't win," said Mackanin, a former major-league infielder who has 13 seasons of minor-league managing experience. "Today, I was nervous for a different reason."

ST. LOUIS At last, the Pittsburgh Pirates got to shake hands after a game with the St. Louis Cardinals Matt Morris lost for the first time since Game 2 of the World Series, getting knocked out in the fourth inning as the Pirates beat St. Louis 11-7 Thursday night to end their 12-game losing streak against the Cardinals. Pittsburgh manager Lloyd McClendon said he wasn't aware of the streak, nor was he concerned about stopping it. "Guys, I'll tell you and I'm serious, I didn't know it was 12 games until somebody brought it up," McClendon said. "This is the life we live. You have to have the mentality that when it's over, it's over. You get ready for the next one. "The only thing I was concerned about was tonight."

Update : They pitch carefully to Matsui and walk him on 5 pitches. Dellucci up and likely bunting. Update : The bunt is good on the first pitch. 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, and Juan Rivera pinch hitting for Contreras. Update : They are walking Rivera to pitch to Aaron Boone. Where's Yanni Update : Looper in to pitch to Boone. Update : Boone is 2 for 6 with a walk against Looper in his career (reg. and post season). Update : Marlins bring the infield in. I don't understand this move. Go for the double play. It's not do or die, they'll still bat. Update : Why is Boone swinging for the fences? He just needs to put the ball in play! Update : Boone strikes out swinging. One of the worst situational AB I've ever seen. He just needs to get the bat on the ball to see what happens, and he's swinging from his heels. No discipline. Update : Flaherty breaks his bat and pops out to third. A great relief appearance by Looper. Posted by David Pinto at 11:54 PM World Series TrackBack (0) Navigation
