Baseball Fever National League Colorado Rockies PDA View Full Version : I think the real key this year is Todd Walker Kirch 02-25-2001, 09:37 PM The everyday roster is pretty much set with the exception of Left Field and 2nd Base.
Seems to me that Gant/Hollandsworth will be fine in Left - but 2nd is up in the air.
I have felt for years that Walker (Todd) is a quality 2nd baseman - average fielder but good bat smarts and has some pop. If he can live up to his potential and force Buddy Bell to start him 135-140 times this year we should be in pretty good shape.

Baseball Fever National League Colorado Rockies PDA View Full Version : Best player in Rockies history bake mcbride 08-18-2004, 11:31 AM Alright, I know this is just the 12th season in Rocks history, but they have had some exceptional players during that time, so I got to wondering, who is the greatest of them all?
I'm talking anything you consider: all-around play, how well they played away from Coors, staggering offense, solid defense...the whole nine yards.
Let me know... Atlanta Braves Freak 08-23-2004, 03:57 PM In my book its a close race between Todd Helton and Larry Walker, but I think Todd Helton wins it because he has stayed consistent over the past few years and even if he didn't play at Coors he would still be a great hitter. The Commissioner 08-25-2004, 07:36 PM I think the Walker deal may make room for Helton to surpass him now. If he plays a few more years with Colorado this should easily give Helton the edge. MileHiMan 10-11-2004, 11:20 PM Hmmmm. Poll's closed? Oh, well.
Both Larry Walker and Todd Helton are great players, but I heartily disagree with the consensus that Larry Walker is the greatest hitter to have played for the Rockies. Larry was a star when Todd Helton came into the league, and has been deservedly recognized as the best Rockie in the past, but Helton has surpassed him.
In my book Todd Helton now deserves recognition as the "Best Ever Rockies Hitter", and he has deserved it for a couple of years now.

I always wanted understand an opinion
about cross training for hitting a
baseball. I recall the question
about a year ago. Once answer I got was.....swinging
a Hockey Stick. Since that time, I heard of a better
answer: Swinging a Sword !! The analogy for pitchers
with bowlers is cute. I like baseball pitchers to
cross train with
a) Medicine ball.....be very careful b) Windmill throw e.g. Fastball. Now for a lil' humor about Baseball Players and Hockey Players. But, baseball players play baseball. dah.

Wallker vs. righties, 2001-03: 303/363/457 Posted on Dec 23, 2003 at 4:44 PM
Comments This is awfully weird - why would Walker take a 50% paycut to be a part-time player? Couldn't he sign a contract like this two months from now? And what now - is Grudzielanek only going to start against LHP? (By the way, his career OPS against LHP is only .755, not so impressive) Are the Cubs going to pay Grudzielanek $3 million to be the righty half of a platoon? What is Grudz going to have to say about this? Prediction: Grudzielanek is going to be traded. Posted by: David Geiser at December 23, 2003 06:27 PM At 1st glance i dont really get why we got Todd Walker after we already brought back Mark Grudz.
But at $1.75 million he is a steal and i can see why the Cubs got him. But its not going to be a platoon at 2nd. Someone is going to say good bye. Which brings me to this scenerio. To me it looks like the Cubs are gonna finally get rid of Agonz. It doesnt make any sense to start Agonz when you just signed a better player in Todd Walker for a mere $1.75 million. And have Grudz who is experienced at SS and is also a better hitter than Agonz for around $3 million.

    December 12, 2002
After ending the Jose Offerman debacle, the Red Sox went with a defensive-minded second baseman in Rey Sanchez in 2002. On Thursday, they switched gears and focused on offense for 2003, acquiring Todd Walker from the Reds for two minor league players to be named sometime after Monday's Rule 5 draft. John Tomase, BA's Red Sox correspondent, has learned that one of the players is third baseman Tony Blanco. ESPN's Peter Gammons, a BA columnist, confirms that and is reporting that righthander Josh Thigpen is the other. Walker, 29, was one of the best second baseman in college history and led Louisiana State to the 1993 College World Series championship before the Twins drafted him in 1994's first round. He never fit in with Minnesota manager Tom Kelly, and was traded to the Rockies in 2000 and the
