By Fan-atic
Sports Commentator - Every 2nd Monday
This week's hype revolves around the racial comments John Rocker of the Atlanta Braves made. The 25-year-old left-hander said in a Sports Illustrated interview that he would never play for a New York team because he didn't want to ride a train next to some queer with AIDS . Rocker also bashed immigrants saying I'm not a very big fan of foreigners. How the hell did they get in this country? . While driving in Atlanta during the interview, Rocker spit on a toll machine and mocked Asian women.
These comments sparked massive media debates and enraged fans. Rocker has been ordered by Major League Baseball to undergo psychological tests before officials decide whether or not to punish him for the remarks. Owners, managers and players have been voicing their opinions on the matter and the subject has even resulted in a John Rocker hate website
Atlanta Braves' first baseman Randall Simon says he knows Rocker was talking about him when he described a teammate as a "fat monkey", and says Rocker's explanation of the comment as mere clubhouse humor is a lie.

Maybe you should think before you shoot off your big fat mouth. You are an immature punk who is lucky to be in the majors. Get some class!" —A posting by "Metsfan4Life" on www.rockersucks.com A MINIVAN is rolling slowly down Atlanta's Route 400, and John Rocker, driving directly behind it in his blue Chevy Tahoe, is pissed. "Stupid bitch! Learn to f-ing drive!" he yells. Rocker honks his horn. Once. Twice. He swerves a lane to the left. There is a toll booth with a tariff of 50 cents. Rocker tosses in two quarters. The gate doesn't rise. He tosses in another quarter. The gate still doesn't rise. From behind, a horn blasts. "F- you!" Rocker yells, flashing his left middle finger out the window. Finally, after Rocker has thrown in two dimes and a nickel, the gate rises. Rocker brings up a thick wad of phlegm. Puuuh!

On The John Rocker Trade

by Sam Person (Bonita Springs, FL)
John Rocker
has been traded from the Atlanta Braves to the Cleveland Indians , an event that has not been without a great deal of attention. Trading players from one team to another is not unusual; indeed, it is a routine occurrence in the business of baseball. But, John Rocker is a special case, and one wonders if the respective teams knew what was at issue. Rocker is at best grossly immature, and at worst, he is a certifiable bigot whose on- and off-the-field antics and utterances are despicable. Certainly, he is considerably less than a wholesome representative for major league baseball. Not surprisingly, both teams made light of his personality and the extreme negativism he brings. They would have you believe that the trade helped both teams. Perhaps so, but the belief here is that it had become necessary to move Rocker out of Atlanta. Whether he brings his act to Cleveland or straightens out remains to be seen. Let us remember just a couple of years ago Rocker was fined and suspended by major league baseball for inappropriate remarks and actions. His comments in New York last week following a game with the Yankees were consistent with what Rocker is all about.

Charles Darwin's theory that the strongest species will find a way to outlast the weaker ones can easily be applied to Major League Baseball as well. Especially this time of year. The strongest teams go on a winning streak, the best players get hot , and issues like injuries and playing time work themselves out for the good teams and bury the bad ones. The strong are outlasting the weak. At the same time, intangible elements about the baseball season begin to take their toll. Pitchers who have spent the whole season giving up gopher balls in hitter-friendly parks wear down and either get hurt or burn out mentally; batters get weary of trying to pump home runs out of SBC Park or Petco Park and go into slumps. Yes, even the ballparks themselves play a role in determining which teams are the fittest to survive.
