Awards: All-Star (8): 1978, 1981-1986, 1991; Rookie of the Year 1977; Gold Glove (3): 1982-1984 Bio Consistency, durability and dominance characterized the career of Eddie Murray. One of baseball's most productive hitters from the late 1970s through the 1990s, Murray is one of only three players to have totaled both 3,000 hits and 500 home runs, joining Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. The all-time career RBI leader among switch-hitters, the three-time Gold Glove Award winner at first base was an eight-time All-Star and had six consecutive top-10 finishes in voting for the Most Valuable Player Award. Murray was a stalwart at first base for 12 seasons for the Orioles, capturing a world championship with Baltimore in 1983. Quote "He really just wanted to go about his business. I would put Eddie Murray in the same category as Andre Dawson. He would like to kid around with the press and (be surly), but he was a total professional. I see why he is a Hall of Famer. I am just glad I had the pleasure of playing for Eddie (Murray) for one year."

Born: February 24, 1956, in Los Angeles, California. Batted both, threw right. All-Star (8): 1978, 1981-1986, 1991. Gold Glove (3): 1982-1984. Consistency, durability, and longevity. Those are three attributes that characterized the career of Eddie Murray, who was one of baseball's most productive hitters from the late 1970s through the early 1990s. Those attributes, along with a Rookie of the Year Award, three Gold Glove awards, six consecutive top-10 finishes in the MVP voting, a World Series ring, and inclusion in both the 3000-hit and 500-home run clubs have helped make Murray worthy of baseball's highest honor-membership in the National Baseball Hall of Fame Born in Los Angeles on February 24, 1956, Eddie Clarence Murray exhibited big league talents at a young age. He grew up in a baseball family, with brother Rich also making the major leagues (as a member of the San Francisco Giants ) and three other brothers enjoying minor league careers. As a star player at Locke High School, Murray shared the dugout with fellow Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith , who preceded Murray's election to the Cooperstown shrine one year earlier.

Baseball Almanac "Eddie Murray's bronze bust in Cooperstown will chatter only slightly less than the man himself. The first line of text on the monument should read: He spoke rarely and carried a mighty bat." - Associated Press Sportswriter David Ginsburg (January 7, 2003) B aseball Almanac is pleased to present an unprecedented collection of baseball related quotations spoken by Eddie Murray and about Eddie Murray. Eddie Murray Quotations From Eddie Murray "If I can help you, it helps us. It's about winning. If you can tell somebody something and it can help the team, that's what you do." "I found out (after getting glasses in 1986) there are a lot of ugly people out there." "I am thrilled by the tremendous honor of being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and joining the other greats of the game," Murray said in a statement. "For those with whom I shared space on the playing field and in the clubhouse, I share this honor with you. Unfortunately, I cannot speak with you today because of the passing of my younger sister, Tanja, after her long-fought battle with kidney disease. Although I dedicated my professional career to the game, I have dedicated my life to my family The elation I feel by being recognized for my achievements on the field is overshadowed by the anguish of losing someone so dear to me." - Press Release on January 7, 2003
