PAUL MOLITOR
A great hitter with quick wrists, Paul Molitor finished in the top ten in batting 11 times. He starred for several seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers before finding post-season success with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993. He was one of the best World Series performers in history and retired with more than 3,300 hits, 230 homers, and 500 steals. Molitor battled injuries early in his career, but had great years in his thirties, when he played primarily as a designated hitter.

Appearing in at least 400 games at three positions, Molitor totaled 3,319 hits, eighth on the all-time hit list. Quote "Molitor didn't walk across the lake to get here, and he didn't change his clothes in the phone booth. He's just another tough hitter."

Paul Molitor
Born: August 22, 1956, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Batted right, threw right. All-Star (7): 1980, 1985, 1988, 1991-1994. As one of the game's most unheralded stars, Paul Molitor played numerous defensive positions on the field in relative obscurity before his short, compact swing vaulted him to baseball's forefront late in his long and illustrious career. In his more than two decades of big league service, Molitor's versatility, postseason heroics, milestone accomplishments and all-out hustle earned him membership in the national pastime's most exclusive club - enshrinement into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Paul Leo Molitor was born on August 22, 1956, in St. Paul, Minnesota. One of eight children, Molitor grew up only blocks away from future pitching star Jack Morris, and attended St. Paul's Cretin High School, where the all-around athlete earned nine varsity letters (three each in baseball, basketball and soccer) and All-State honors in baseball and basketball. After high school, Molitor was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 28th round of the 1974 free-agent draft as a pitcher, but turned down the money to follow the path of another St. Paul native, Dave Winfield, and attend the University of Minnesota. While in college, Molitor was a three-year starter for the Golden Gophers, where he earned All-American honors as a shortstop his sophomore and junior years. It was after his junior year in college that the right-handed hitting Molitor once again had to choose whether or not to give professional baseball a try. He was the Milwaukee Brewers' first pick and third overall, behind Harold Baines and Bill Gullickson, in the June 1977 free-agent draft.

A largely unheralded performer, Paul Molitor received due recognition by challenging baseball's great hitting streaks in 1987. A solidly built righthander with especially strong legs but weak hamstrings, Molitor overcame two trips to the disabled list in 1987 to lead the American League in runs scored (114) and doubles (41) while finishing second in the batting race (.353). His hit streak was the talk of baseball when it ended at 39 games. The Brewers were 76-41 with him in the lineup, 22-23 without.
