But the youngest person to ever play baseball keeps changing. JOE 11/20/19064/27/1925 foxx, jimmie 10/22/1907 5/1/1925 OTT, MEL 03/02/1909 4/27/1926

Youngest Active Player Chronology When Hall-of-Famer Harry Wright played his first game of the 1871 season on May 5, 1871, he became the oldest person to ever play major league baseball. That's not to say that nobody ever took the field who was older than Wright's thirty-six. Rather, no player who was born earlier than Wright has ever played in the majors. Even with expansion, it's unlikely that Wright's record will be broken. As far as I know, there isn't a person alive who was born earlier than January 10, 1835. Pitcher Fred Chapman was the youngest player to make his debut (14 years 7 months 29 days). But the youngest person to ever play baseball keeps changing. At the end of the 1998 season, that distinction belongs to Pirates thirdbaseman Aramis Ramirez. Born June 25, 1978, he's more than a year younger than Kerry Wood and almost a month younger than Mike Caruso. No doubt, someone younger than Ramirez will make their major league debut sometime next year. One of the reasons this list is interesting is it helps to answer a question I'm frequently asked "who was the first person to reach the majors who was younger than me?" If you were born on June 1, 1969, the answer is Ken Griffey. Here's the list of players who have held the title "Baseball's Youngest Player." NICE GUYS DON'T ALWAYS FINISH LAST
Jimmie Foxx
One of baseball's all-time great sluggers, Jimmie Foxx also ranks up there with the all-time great nice guys in baseball history. The native of Maryland's Eastern shore was a baseball prodigy, showing amazing power at an early age. He always acknowledged that he gained his amazing strength from working on his families farm. After being scouted by Frank "Home Run" Baker, he signed with Baker's Easton Club of the Eastern Shore League. There he becamse Baker's protégé. On recommendation from Baker, Connie Mack signed Foxx to play for his A's. After years in Philadelphia playing under the penurious Connie Mack, he finally started making good when he was traded to Boston. Tom Yawkey, who always paid his players well, even gave Foxx a share in gate receipts. Universally liked, Almost everyone loved him, from Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth to Ted Williams. He always went out of the way to befriend new teammates and rookies.
In July of 1967, after years of bad investments and ill health, Foxx died on the way to the hospital after he choked on a piece of meat in the backyard of his brother. By that time, he was a beaten and broken man, and those close to him felt that Jimmie had finally just given up, and did not have the will to live anymore. It was a very sad ending to a simply great, great guy.

BEER DRINKERS AND HELL RAISERS
JIMMIE FOXX
Born at Sudlersville, MD, Foxx was one of the greatest power hitters in major league history. Breaking in with the A's as a catcher in 1925, he was converted to firstbase because of Mickey Cochrane. Called "the right-handed Babe Ruth." Foxx became a baseball legend because of his enormous strength. In Comiskey Park, he hit a ball over the double-decked stands, clearing 34th Street. His gigantic clout in Cleveland won the 1935 all-star Game. In Yankee Stadium, he hit one into the left field upper deck where it broke a seat! A strong, powerful hitter, he was menacing looking at the plate. Foxx never made big money until he was traded to the Red Sox where Tom Yawkey paid him well. A good-natured and well-liked man like Ruth, he was always a favorite of other players around baseball. He was a frequent party companion of Babe Ruth, and also paled around with Ty Cobb, a teammate of his for two seasons with the A's. A friend to all, he was greatly admired by Negro League players because of the friendly way he treated blacks.

MLB Greatest Players THE 50 GREATEST MLB PLAYERS Jimmie Foxx A fearsome power hitter whose strength earned him the moniker "The Beast," Jimmie Foxx was the anchor of an intimidating Philadelphia Athletics lineup that produced pennant winners from 1929 to 1931. The second batter in history to top 500 home runs, Foxx belted 30 or more homers in a record 12 consecutive seasons and drove in more than 100 runs 13 consecutive years, including a career-best 175 with Boston in 1938. He won back-to-back MVP awards in 1932 and 1933, capturing the Triple Crown the latter year. An imposing physical specimen with bulging muscles, Jimmie Foxx was more than just a slugger - he twice led the AL in batting and in 1945, at the tail end of his career, he pitched for the Phillies - winning a game and posting a 1.59 ERA. In his prime he challenged Babe Ruth's single-season home run record, won three MVP awards, and the Triple Crown. He won two World Series titles with Connie Mack's Athletics, and retired as the second leading home run hitter of all-time.

History
Early History
Baseball developed from variations of the English game of rounders, from related regional and local games, and from children's games like "one old cat," all of which had evolved through centuries. The traditional story that Abner Doubleday Doubleday, Abner, Click the link for more information. invented baseball in 1839 in Cooperstown, N.Y. has been discredited. Rather, in the 1840s Alexander Cartwright of the New York Knickerbocker Club standardized many of the features and field dimensions still in use today. It is widely thought that the first game of modern baseball was played by the Knickerbockers in the fall of 1845 in a park called Elysian Fields in Hoboken, N.J. Sportswriter Henry Chadwick wrote (1858) the first rule book, and though the rules continue to change by small degrees, by 1900 the game was essentially that of today.
