He's getting older and it is definitely showing in his swing. He's not shifting his weight properly (not to mention putting on a few pounds) and getting around on balls, and that's leading to pretty poor batting. The Nats hoped his knees would hold up, but that injury has bothered him more than they thought it would But that being said, he's a great third baseman that would benefit Zimm in the long run. Being able to learn from Castilla would be a very positive thing, both on the field and in the clubhouse, for Zimm. So I would like to see Castilla get the rest he obviously needs by bringing in Short for a while. But I wouldn't go so far as to release him, there are still a lot of positive reasons to keep him, and since no one else will really take him

What the team that signs Castilla will be overlooking is the fact that he hit a Batista-like .218/.281/.493 away from Planet Coors this year, after hitting just .254/.289/.404 with the Braves in 2002 and 2003. There are worse one-year stop gaps than Castilla, but teams need to understand that he's no better now than he was this time last year, despite the superficially good, Coors-inflated numbers.
