Ht: Wt B: T: R Yrs G AB R H HR RBI SB BA Jose Canseco biography on Baseball Almanac for complete statistics. Jose Canseco's career is one that is filled with great talent and great accomplishment. Still, it leaves questions of what might have been. He is a former American League MVP and retires 38 home runs short of 500. Canseco entered 2002 Spring Training with the Montreal Expos but was cut/released when it was obvious he would not have a full-time role. He signed with the Chicago White Sox in May and was assigned to the AAA Charlotte Knights where he hit .172 with 5 home runs and 9 RBIs in 18 games. "Jose felt that because of personal reasons and a strong desire on his part to spend more quality time with his young daughter, it was time to announce his retirement," said Alan Nero, Canseco's agent, in a statement released by the White Sox. His 462 home runs places him 22nd on the career HR list, just 3 behind Hall of Famer Dave Winfield. His career included stints in Oakland, Texas, Boston, Toronto, Tampa Bay, New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox. He's one of only nine players in history with 400 homers and 200 stolen bases.
