March 2004 Read an excerpt from Jerry Crasnick's new book, License to Deal: A Season on the Run with a Maverick Baseball Agent August 26, 2005 ItÂs about time It sounds like Joe Mays is about done. HeÂll be taken out of the rotation, and Scott Baker is expected to be recalled and start Monday. Finally. The Twins  have noticed lately that his velocity fluctuates between 86 and 89 miles per hour. I would say thatÂs been noticeable for quite some time. I think itÂs quite noticeable when it appears that heÂs throwing batting practice out there. Look, I think Joe Mays is a good pitcher, but heÂs coming off of surgery and itÂs a long, long season. HeÂs lost his velocity, so why not shut him down for the rest of the season? The Twins have two guys in the minors who could do better. IÂm glad the Twins have finally made a decision, but they should have made this move a month ago. | |
