It’s about time It sounds like Joe Mays is about done. He’ll be taken out of the rotation, and Scott Baker is expected to be recalled and start Monday. Finally. The Twins “ have noticed lately that his velocity fluctuates between 86 and 89 miles per hour.” I would say that’s been noticeable for quite some time. I think it’s quite noticeable when it appears that he’s throwing batting practice out there. Look, I think Joe Mays is a good pitcher, but he’s coming off of surgery and it’s a long, long season. He’s lost his velocity, so why not shut him down for the rest of the season? The Twins have two guys in the minors who could do better. I’m glad the Twins have finally made a decision, but they should have made this move a month ago.
