I've been a fan of the Miami Dolphins for most of my life, and I was stunned when running back Ricky Williams quit just before training camp started. If he didn't want to play anymore, that's fine. No one can make him do something he doesn't want to do. But he could have made his decision earlier. By waiting so long, he put the team in a real bind. That was really selfish, and it pretty much killed Miami's chances of making the playoffs this year. Williams was a great runner, but I don't think he's a very good person. Good people don't do things like that to their teammates. Don Kelly Richfield, Minn.

On Ricky Williams’ Early Retirement
"One of the finest running backs in the game, was quitting because his love for drugs outweighed his love for football."
By Mike Oseroff
"Football Is Life, The Rest Is Just Details"- reads a t-shirt you’re likely to see worn at Pop-Warner games by young kids, their fathers, or their passionate coaches. Maybe you’ve seen teenagers wearing the same shirt around your school, or the fans who eat, drink, and breathe the game of football. Perhaps you even see it on the pros. They wear it to the gym, flash it proudly while they bench press, as if to say: "I've given my all to this game, I love it, it's a part of me."
But there is one person you will never see wearing that shirt: Ricky Williams. Ricky Williams, the former Pro Bowl running back, Heisman Trophy winner, and heart and soul of the entire Miami Dolphins franchise, walked away from the game of football a week ago, and it seems he won't be looking back. At the age of 27, Williams was at the brink of entering his prime. He was a superstar, having led the N.F.L. in rushing in 2002, and was the focal point for his team's offense. He was a multi-millionaire living in a vibrant city and playing the game he loved. Or so we thought. On July 24th, Williams retired from the NFL after only five seasons, shocking the city of Miami and the entire football world. With all fairness to other pro leagues, the National Football League is perhaps the most grueling, demanding, and physically excruciating professional sporting league in the world. You don't make it to that tier unless you are an elite athlete. The gym time, training regimens, and mental preparations are unequaled in any professional sport. It would seem that any player who has made it to the N.F.L. would at least have a little passion for the game. But as it turns out, that fire was lacking in Ricky Williams, and none of his accomplishments on the field could ignite it.

their first training camp. He was going to be suspended for a failed drug test
(Marijuana) and did not want to deal with Miami. He want's to be a Raider
and that is the only team he is considering. His former offensive coordinator
Norve Turner is how the head coach of the Raiders. He led the league in

likes how Oakland is building their offensive line. The Raiders drafted Robert
Galery as the #2 pick. He is one of the best Offensive Line prospects to ever
come out of the NFL. He got a score of 9.9 out of a perfect 10 out of the
NFL scouts. Galery is around 6 feet 7 inches, and weighs about 320 pouns.
This would probably take place next year. If this happens the Raiders will once again be a major force in the AFC. I am a Raider fan so I

How do you feel about the NFL, and especially the Miami Dolphins allowing Williams back in after letting his team down? What are you expectations of him this year? Allowing him back in sent a good message or bad message to youngsters ? If he didn't owe $8 million, we never would have heard from him again. Garrizona Member Joined: Sun May 8th, 2005

Former NFL star Doug Williams replaced the Legendary Coach Eddie Robinson as Grambling State University's Head Football coach. Williams returned to his alma mater with the dual role of replacing the legend and reviving a struggling program. He is only the second coach in the history of Grambling State University. Williams, a former All-American quarterback for Grambling, was a No. 1 draft pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1978. He played nine seasons in the NFL and the USFL. Williams came to Grambling after one season as head coach at Morehouse College , leading the Division II school to a 3-8 mark. Williams was the Heisman Trophy runner-up while playing under Robinson and later earned Super Bowl XXII MVP honors as a member of the Washington Redskins Leonard Griffin - Strength Coach Former Grambling and Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Leonard Griffin returned to GSU to become strength coach for the Grambling Athletic Department. Griffin was an All-SWAC performer for Grambling in 1984 and went on to play for the Chiefs from 1986-93. He is responsible for supervising and teaching weight-training techniques and conditioning for all GSU athletes. Griffin also works closely with GSU sports therapist Ricky McCall in helping Grambling athletes rehabilitate from injuries.

This past weekend was a great one for sports. Fall is here, the weather is cooler, the leaves are changing colors, and you just get the feeling that it’s football time. You had high school football on Friday, a great slate of big-time college football games on Saturday, and then the usual NFL rundown on Sunday. It was just a great weekend for sports. You had the Patriots winning their 19 th straight game, an absolutely astounding feat in this day and age. If that wasn’t enough, you had another important 19 game streak, although this one was the nation’s longest losing streak being shattered as Army beat Cincinnati. You couldn’t help but feel good about that win for Army, seeing the excitement in the faces of the fans and players as they tore down goal posts and carried Coach Bobby Ross off the field. This Army win was sweeter than the stick of a Fun-Dip. Despite all of this, no matter how badly I want to, I can’t get away from Ricky Williams.

Archives Ricky rejoins Dolphins, apologizes 02:40 PM CDT on Monday, July 25, 2005 Associated Press Lining up for his first play since the 2003 season, Williams took a handoff from Gus Frerotte and ran 20 yards to the end zone. But there was no defense on the field, and Williams is sure to meet stiffer resistance in the weeks to come as he tries to regain favor and reclaim a starting job. At a team meeting Sunday after players reported for camp, Williams spoke briefly and apologized for the impact caused by his retirement a year ago. The Dolphins went on to finish 4-12, their worst season since the 1960s. Williams reiterated his comments at a news conference after the first practice. "There were things about life that I wanted to explore outside of football, and I had never had the chance," he said. "I realize by making that decision, I affected the team in a negative way and upset a lot of fans. I'm very regretful that people were hurt in the process of me doing that. I do realize that to a lot of people it comes off as being very selfish. So I do offer an apology to all the people who were negatively impacted." Williams said he no longer smokes marijuana but declined to discuss the subject further. He faces a four-game suspension at the start of the season for violating the NFL substance abuse policy.
