Tyrone Willingham Position:
Head Coach
Experience:
1st Year
Tyrone Willingham was named Washington's 22nd head football coach on December 13, 2004. A former head coach at Notre Dame and Stanford, Willingham became the first African-American to serve as the Huskies head coach. While he brings an impressive resume with him to resurrect the Husky program, Willingham has acquitted himself well among his peers for much more than just fielding winning teams. Over the past 28 years Willingham has developed a coaching style that emphasizes toughness, enthusiasm, intelligence, discipline, commitment and unselfish play. The result has provided his players with more than just the opportunity to enjoy victories on the field. His guiding principles have prepared his players to be successful in life. Willingham, who turned 51 on Dec. 30, served as the head coach at Stanford (1995-2001) and Notre Dame (2002-2004) over the past decade. His Stanford teams enjoyed a 44-36-1 record while he was 21-15 with the Fighting Irish, including a 38-3 victory against Washington earlier this year at Notre Dame Stadium.

Auction-league mock draft
PFW editors put money where their mouths are in mock auction
Conducted July 28, 1999
Ten members of the Pro Football Weekly staff conducted a mock auction on July 28. Each team had $100 to spend on 16 roster spots (two quarterbacks, two running backs, four or five wide receivers, one or two tight ends, two placekickers and two defenses). All evaluations were made based on the PFW scoring system (see below). Team One was the first to call out a player, and the call-out order went around the table to Team 10. Once a team had filled its roster spots, it did not call out any more players. The draft was conducted with the assumption that all holdout or unsigned players (Antonio Freeman, Jamal Anderson, Carl Pickens, etc.) would be available for their teams, although their holdout status may have affected their price. It was also assumed that Barry Sanders would be retired. PFW scoring system: 6 points for TD run or reception; 3 points for TD pass, 300-plus yards passing, 100-plus yards rushing or receiving; 2 bonus points for TD pass of 40-plus yards; 3 bonus points for TD run or reception of 40-plus yards; 3 points for FG; 1 bonus point for FG of 50-plus yards; 1 point for PAT (kick); 2 points for run or catch for 2-point conversion; 1 point for pass for 2-point conversion; 6 points for defensive TD; 3 bonus points for defensive TD of 40-plus yards; 2 points for safety.
