Clarion Dumps Mansfield 34-20 (MANSFIELD, PA.): Clarion tailback Marcus Lowe ran for 170 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries as the Golden Eagles used a big second half to defeat Mansfield 34-20 on Saturday afternoon at Karl Van Norman Field. Clarion raised its record to 1-2, while Mansfield dropped to 0-3 on he 2004 season. Trailing 10-6 at halftime, the Golden Eagles took the lead for good on a 9 play, 47-yard drive to open the second half. Quarterback Brandon Dando fired a 1-yard td pass to Dan Tucker at 10:14 of the third quarter and Clarion led 13-10. Lowe then took over the game as he scored on a 5-yard run with 2:30 left in the third to make it 20-10, and then with 12:55 left in the game from 13-yards out to give Clarion a 27-13 led. Lowe put the game away with a nifty 66-yard td run on Clarion’s next possession. Lowe broke loose up the middle, ran left for about 20 yards, then changed directions back to the right and sprinted away from the Mansfield secondary to give the Eagles a 34-13 lead with 11:50 remaining. Clarion outgained Mansfield 376-272, including a whopping 321-57 edge in rushing yards.

The Grey Cup
History
Albert Henry George Grey, the fourth Earl Grey, who served as Governor General of Canada from 1904 to 1911, decided in 1908 to present a cup for the best senior amateur hockey team in Canada. However, he learned that Sir Montague Allan had already donated the Allan Cup for that purpose, so he decided that his trophy should be awarded to the country's Rugby football champion, with competition conducted by the Canadian Rugby Union (CRU). Rugby was gradually transformed into Canadian football, leading to a variety of disputes over rules among various organizations. Because of differences in the rules, the CRU held a two-game total-point series for the Grey Cup in 1940, under two different sets of rules. Ottawa won both games outright. The differences were more or less resolved when the Canadian Football Council (CFC) was established in 1956 as an organization of professional teams. Two years later, the CFC pulled out of the CRU and was re-named the Canadian Football League (CFL). In 1966, the CRU turned over trusteeship of the Grey Cup to the CFL, and since then the trophy has gone to the league's champion. A Most Valuable Player award was established for the championship game in 1959. It wasn't awarded from 1963 through 1966, but was reinstated in 1967. Because of the great influx of players from the United States, a separate Most Valuable Canadian Player award was added in 1971.

UNLV Seniors Sweep Football Awards Postseason banquet honors Haro, Terrell, Thomas, Tucker and more. Dec. 7, 2002 LAS VEGAS - Three Rebel seniors earned MVP honors as the UNLV football awards were announced as part of the team's annual postseason banquet Friday at the Four Seasons Hotel. With the voting done by their teammates, running back Joe Haro and quarterback Jason Thomas were named UNLV Co-Offensive Most Valuable Players. Haro, out of Clifton, N.J., rushed for 813 yards and five touchdowns and became the fourth player in school history to reach 2,000 yards in a career (2,013) after posting four of his nine career 100-yard games this fall. His 5.3 yards-per-carry average was tops among the leading six rushers in the league. After also winning the award in 2001, Haro is the fourth repeat winner in school history. Thomas, a former USC transfer out of Compton, Calif., was a preseason member of the Davey O'Brien Award and Johnny Unitas Award watch lists and finished fifth at the school in career passing with 4,997 yards, second in total offense with 6,525 yards and third in rushing touchdowns with 24. He was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week on November 4 after passing for a career-high 329 yards and rushing for a school-record three touchdowns in a single quarter during a 49-48 overtime win over Wyoming.

Tiger football: 20 questions for the coming season
Packet OnLine
Thursday, April 29, 1999
The following questions and answers were provided by the Princeton University Sports Information Office.

Are we keeping the stadium for another year? Definitely. The first year at Princeton Stadium turned out to be a boon for fans, as average attendance jumped from just over 10,000 in the final year at Palmer Stadium to 22,227 last year in the inaugural season at Princeton Stadium. The stadium was everything it was advertised to be, and its simplicity while providing an intimate setting created an atmosphere that had been missing in the old facility. Princeton went 3-2 at home in its first season in the building.
How many captains are there? For the first time in program history, Princeton will have three captains: Hamin Abdullah, David Ferrara and Chuck Hastings.
What figure to be the strengths of this year's team?
On the other hand, what figure to be the weaknesses?
Princeton will have a new quarterback, regardless of which one emerges. The secondary a year ago struggled due to injuries and inexperience, though that group is healthier and deeper this time around.
If it's another season, does that mean another new quarterback?

ALL-STATE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM OFFENSE
James Nadeau

Woodstock Center Sr., 6-3, 225
The player: Nadeau was one of the reasons the Wasps were undefeated this year as he led the offensive line in the trenches. The three-year starter is athletic and a student of the game with great technique. Nadeau was consistent on his snap exchanges with the quarterback all season and executed on his blocking. Nadeau called out the blocking assignments and made the angle blocks.
Eric Ludwig
Mt. St. Joseph GuardSr., 6-4, 275 The player: MSJ coach Brian Grady says it best about Ludwig: "He is the best offensive lineman that I have coached in 12 years." Ludwig allowed only one sack over two years during more than 500 passing plays. His blocking, including hand-and-foot work, is videotaped to show other MSJ players. Ludwig has an excellent work ethic. Greg Wallett Rutland GuardSr., 6-0, 220 The player: Wallett has been a solid player for two years and makes a return trip to the Free Press All-State team. He is one of the reasons for Rutland's successful ground game and excellent pass protection. Coach Mike Norman considers him among the best he has seen in his eight years at the helm. Wallett is full of desire and dedication.
