He is also willing to renegotiate his contract. "I want to stay," Sehorn told the Daily News yesterday by cell phone from Dallas, where he lives in the offseason. "I'd like to play free safety. Then you have four people under contract who can play." He was referring to corners Will Peterson and Will Allen, strong safety Shaun Williams and himself. "It would only be for the sake of having your four best athletes playing," he said. "All I want to do is play. They have a flexible player they can move around." But it may not matter. There have been strong indications the Giants will cut him by March 10, when he is owed a $1 million roster bonus. His base salary for '03 is an out-of-whack $4.3 million. There's not much enthusiasm in the organization about moving him to free safety anyway. And then, after all his injuries, there is the question of how much he has left. It means Sehorn, one of the most visible Giants, may be down to his final two weeks with the team. "That would be tough," he said. "I would do what everybody else in life does: pick up the pieces and move on. People get fired on a daily basis. It would be disappointing, but not the end of the world."

ALBANY - There are plenty of things for Jason Sehorn to do as the Giants' NFL Players Association representative. His main job is to keep his teammates informed of their rights and the benefits that previous NFL players fought for. Once a year he goes to a labor meeting for an update on the state of the players' relations with the league. What he doesn't have to do is go through what his counterparts in baseball are going through right now. The NFL, Sehorn said, will have labor peace "forever" because both players and management are generally happy with the current system, and they both understand they have to give a little if it's in the best interests of the game. "Everybody's kind of in a good spot right now with our game," Sehorn said. "They make a ton of money. We make a ton of money. And everybody can win. Everybody has a chance. That's the best thing about our sport. You want all teams to have an opportunity. And some sports aren't like that." Baseball, obviously, was the sport Sehorn was referring to, especially with its union leaders talking about the possibility of a second strike in eight years. In that same span, football has extended its collective bargaining agreement four times - most recently on Jan. 7, when the 1993 agreement was extended through the 2008 draft.

He totaled 136 tackles (108 solo) with 10 interceptions and 23 passes defended while returning 31 punts for 7.3-yard average in his Trojan career. Sehorn was selected 59th overall in the 1995 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, where he played for nine seasons, highlighted by a 2001 NFC Championship. He signed with the St. Louis Rams in 2003. However, it is often Sehorn’s generous volunteer activities that set him apart from other elite athletes. He has helped several single mothers in Newark, N.J. become homeowners. Sehorn's Corner hosts "Turkey Trot", a program in which his foundation purchases Thanksgiving meals for single-parent families in Elizabeth, NJ. Sehorn has hosted a Mother's Day luncheon in Newark for single-parent mothers and continues his involvement in numerous charities. His donation to Mt. Shasta High was the catalyst for a renovation to the school’s track facilities in 2003.

Sehorn Foundation Delivers a Memorable Mother’s Day New York Giants cornerback, Jason Sehorn welcomes Susan Ramirez, along with sons, Brandon and Victor, to their new home at NC Community Hills. His foundation assisted Ms. Ramirez with her down payment, as well provided brand new furnishings, courtesy of Ikea. T he television cameras were gone. Jason Sehorn, the affable and socially-minded Giants cornerback, had presented Susan Ramirez with a $5,000 down payment on the town home she was purchasing in New Community’s Community Hills development. He had helped cut the ribbon across the front door on West Kinney Street and been interviewed. He had quietly posed on request for dozens of photographs and autographed everything from footballs to Giants banners. This was the second down payment on a new home that Mr. Sehorn and his Sehorn’s Corner Foundation had given to a single mother buying a new home at Community Hills-a development of 206 attractive NCC-built town houses spanning Irvine Turner Boulevard in the Central Ward-in less than two months. Now, Mr. Sehorn was sitting on the floor of Victor Ramirez’s new bedroom. Victor had recently discovered that in addition to being neatly furnished by Ikea, his family’s new home was stocked with a rather impressive collection of toys.
