An early taste of fantasy football
Wetting the appetite of hard-core fantasy fanatics
By Ron Pollack, Editor-in-chief
For those of you who hate everything fantasy football, I apologize. I give you an early taste of fantasy football. Just a taste, mind you. Not the whole meal. We are working on our fantasy football annual these days. During the last two days, we have held our basic and yardage mock drafts for that annual, which hits the newsstands later this summer. I drafted two teams in each of those mock drafts. I thought you might be interested in seeing what kind of team you can get in a 10-team league. We drafted based upon the premise that TD passes are worth three points for quarterbacks and touchdowns scored are worth six points. In the basic scoring league, there are minor yardage bonuses. In the yardage league, yards matter much more.
Basic draft
The first team I drafted picked out of the No. 4 slot in the 10-team mock. It was as follows: WR Terrell Owens
QB Jeff Garcia
RB Antowain Smith
RB Michael Bennett
TE Bubba Franks
RB Terrell Davis
WR Derrick Mason
WR Rod Gardner
RB Tiki Barber
PK Jason Elam
WR Amani Toomer QB Kerry Collins Chargers defense PK Paul Edinger Seahawks defense The second team I drafted picked out of the No. 9 slot. It was as follows:

SANFL FOOTBALL Changing of the guard at South AS THE SANFL season draws closer, SHAUN HOLLIS and ANDREW FAULKNER ask all nine clubs for their ins and outs - then offer predictions as to where your team will be at the end of the minor round. SOUTH ADELAIDE In: Ryan Fitzgerald (Adelaide, key forward), Gerrard Bennett (Sydney, defender), Justin Berry (Carlton, wingman), Michael Handby (Adelaide/Glenelg, defender), Michael Davis (Carlton, onballer), Rod Tregenza (Kangaroos, forward), Mark Bradley (Bendigo Diggers, ruckman/forward), Aiden Parker (Subiaco, Crows rookie list, fullback), Jason Torney (Richmond to Adelaide, defender), Ricky Clark (Narre Warren, midfielder), Aaron Roche (Gaza, key forward). Out: Ian Perrie (North Adelaide), Merv Kartinyeri (Tailem Bend), Jaxon Crabb (Claremont, Port Power delisted), Allan Murray (St Kilda, Port Power delisted), Derek Murray (North Albury, Port Power delisted). Shaun Hollis: ''After a major about-face from last season's policy of recruiting within the area, coach Greg Anderson has landed a few gun recruits from across Australia. Look out for Tregenza, who starred for the VFL in last year's state game, and Bradley, who finished third in the 2002 Liston Medal - the VFL equivalent of the Magarey. Prediction: middle three.'' Andrew Faulkner: ''Difficult to predict the Panthers' fortunes because of the personnel changes. Bottom three.''
