Tell Clark your opinion!

Some people say Tom Brady's the NFL's best quarterback; others insist it's Peyton Manning. Me? I'm sitting this one out, content to evaluate neither Manning nor Brady but to choose this year's five most significant backups. Entering his 10th season, Jay Fiedler jumps from the Fins to the AFC East rival Jets. (Getty Images) Yes, backups. That, then, disqualifies Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers because quarterbacks who sit behind Brett Favre do nothing but sit. It also rules out San Francisco's Tim Rattay, who happens to work for the league's ball and chain. It doesn't, however, eliminate the Jets' Jay Fiedler, Buffalo's Kelly Holcomb or Jeff Garcia of Detroit, a team that last year suffered five of its last six losses by 18 points or just over a field goal per game. I think you get the idea. If your team is decent, and your starter is vulnerable, you qualify. These are five backups who could have the greatest impact on this season:

Since then, Flutie has excelled in the Canadian Football League, capturing CFL's MVP six times including three Grey Cup Championships. Last year, Flutie led the NFL's Buffalo Bills on a successful run to a playoff berth. Not only was Flutie selected as the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year, he also earned a spot on the Pro Bowl team. BSJ: Growing up you played many sports. Why did you choose football?
DF: I have always said that football chose me I didn't choose it. Growing up I loved all sports, especially basketball. I thought I was equally good at basketball in high school, and it was the most fun to play, but it became obvious to me that the college scholarship opportunities were coming from football, so that's what I leaned toward. BSJ: It must be extremely rewarding for you to see the results that your hard work has made towards the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism.
DF: When you become more secure with your career you realized there is more out there. The blinders come off. I think that's what happened with me. Plus for me, it hits home with Dougie. So, yeah, it's very satisfying for me to make strides with the money we've raised. But I think our number one achievement has been awareness. We've brought a lot of attention to autism and many foundations have benefited not just ours. BSJ: What kinds of activities to you do in the off-season?

100 Greatest Players of All-Time
#40 Doug Flutie Doug Flutie, Boston College
Quarterback, 1981-1984 Passing quarterbacks are supposed to be over six feet tall with a huge arm and a commanding presence. Doug Flutie looked like a kicker at around 5'9" and under 175 pounds inspiring fans with the way he just made things happen. He wasn't an option quarterback like most QBs his size, he was a passer and possibly the most creative, exciting and magical passer in college football history. Why is he so high on the list when compared to a player like Ty Detmer? Very few players in the history of sports have inspired fans and captured their imagination more than Flutie who was too small and had an average arm, but just made plays and found ways to win with his schoolyard style of play. The offensive machine: With 11,318 total yards of offense, he was the NCAA's all-time leader surpassing Jim McMahon's record. He threw for 10,579 yards threw the air and ran for 739. In his Heisman Trophy winning senior year, he was 233 of 386 for 3,454 yards and 27 touchdown passes. But it was one magical, rainy day in Miami that made him a college football legend. The throw: The pro career: After playing in the USFL for the New Jersey Generals in 1985, he went to the NFL with Chicago and New England and not getting much credit or much of a chance. Flutie went to Canada in 1990 where he was the CFL's Most Outstanding Player for six years and won several Grey Cups. He returned to the NFL in 1998 to play for the Buffalo Bills taking the city by storm with his creative style and winning attitude before going to San Diego and helping turn around the last place Chargers.

Doug Flutie (born October 23 in Manchester, Maryland ) is an American football and a former Canadian football quarterback . He is the older brother of the CFL's all-time reception leader Darren Flutie . He has an autistic son, Doug Flutie Jr. in whose name a foundation has been established.
College career
Flutie played football for Boston College from 1981 to 1984, and won the Heisman Trophy in his senior year. He first gained national attention in a back-and-forth game in against the University of Miami , quarterbacked by Bernie Kosar . This game was on national television the day after Thanksgiving and thus had a huge audience. Miami had just staged a dramatic drive to take the lead, 45-41, in the closing minute of the game. Boston College had possession at their 22-yard line with 28 seconds to go. After two passes to move the ball another 30 yards, only six seconds remained on the clock. On the last play of the game, Flutie threw a Hail Mary pass caught in the end zone by Gerard Phelan , giving BC the victory. The play essentially clinched Flutie's win of the

The magic Flutie?
By ROBERT NEELY, Associate editor Doug Flutie , the ultimate underdog, gave up a very successful career in the Canadian Football League to take one more shot at glory in the National Football League. Some fantasy football owners have been sucked into the Flutie phenomenon, feeling that his unique brand of magic could lead to big numbers this fall. The latest rumblings about Doug Flutie
The Pro Football Weekly Internet Edition has written previously about Bills QB Doug Flutie being benched in the playoffs, but PFW contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum continues to hear rumblings about Flutie, so we are revisiting the topic. Q: What is the latest you are hearing about Flutie? Buchsbaum: A lot of people are surprised Buffalo is holding on to Doug Flutie. There's tremendous dissension in the clubhouse about him. The players are very upset with him because he never takes blame for anything. He's always pointing fingers at others and is always sort of laying the blame on someone else. If you noticed last year when things went wrong, Doug never was the one to blame, and you notice the way that he's shooting off his mouth now. Flutie can be a great guy when things are going his way, but when things go against him, he can be very shaky. The Archives
