Turn a gigantic cookie-cutter upside down and fill it with 66,000 bodies, and you have the Goodyear Blimp shot of Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia. What made it possibly the most reviled open-air theater in all of the NFL wasn't so much its playing surface from hell, which in 1993 claimed both patella tendons of the Chicago Bears' Wendell Davis and traditionally was voted worst in the league in NFL Players Association surveys.

In their four appearances prior to upsetting Green Bay in Super Bowl 32 and then routing Atlanta the following season, the Broncos were Super Bowl flops. The "Orange Crush defense of 1977, which led Denver to a 12-2 record and its first playoff berth ever, was crushed by Dallas, 27-10, in Super Bowl 12. Nearly a decade later, the 1986 Broncos used "the Drive" at Cleveland to capture the AFC crown, but the Giants stepped on them, 39-20, in Super Bowl 21. Denver was back the next year, only to fall, 42-10, to Washington. And if you think that was bad, the Broncos were beaten, 55-10, by San Francisco in Super Bowl 24, the biggest rout in the game's history. Ultimately, though, Denver did away with its Super Bowl curse.

Ranking the Offensive Lines - July '00
written by Joe Bryant ( CheatSheets.net
printed with permission by Fantasy Index Magazine
ARTICLE REPRODUCED FOR FREE AT WWW.DRAFTGUIDE.COM In addition to participating in the Fantasy Index Experts Poll for 2000, I’m pleased to have an article published in this year’s magazine. My friend and Index Publisher, Ian Allan, was kind enough to let me offer a sneak preview of the article as the magazine hits the newsstands.
Enjoy!
Joe Take a stroll through the NFL apparel at the local sports store and check out the jersey numbers. Lots of 12s, maybe an 8, a few scattered 80s and probably enough different 32s to outfit a team. It's not easy, however, to find a jersey with any number in the 60s or 70s. The offensive linemen who wear those numerals, simply don't have the star appeal of the other skill positions.
But ask any NFL GM to name the best and most valuable players in the league and names like Tony Boselli, Orlando Pace, Larry Allen and Jonathan Ogden will be thrown out as often as the higher profile quarterbacks and running backs. Knowledgeable fans know it too. A telling moment occurred at this year's NFL draft when Washington's new left tackle, Chris Samuels, made his way over to some screaming fans. The Washington faithful went berserk as Samuels repeatedly bellowed, "There's a new Hog in the house!" Given what he'll mean to the team, their enthusiasm was justified.

64. MSNBC - Error
The person who helped him the most, though, was lomas brown. I think he smatured as a football player, Bucs offensive line coach Bill Muir said.

Red Zone
Setting: The modern world of American Football. Build a team and set it up against your opponent's.
Game Play: Lousy. Drafting a team is easy and cool. Players take turns picking their favorite cards out of their deck with the only restriction being that you cannot use someone that your opponent already has in play. That's where the joy ends. First, you do a kickoff, where one player flips the top card of his deck and reads the K value in yards. The other player flips the top card of his deck and reads the KR value. Calculate where the ball is for the first play using the formula K-20+KR = Ball. Now, let's see what the first play is. Put any one play card in your hand facedown on the table. Your opponent will play a card from his hand which has a defense on it. You each reveal these cards and then flip a card off your decks.
Your card tells us what color your play was. His card tells him what color his defense was. Now we look at one of the two 3-page charts included in the game and compare your Green Fullback Drive to his Yellow Stunt defense and we get a number. The number is 2. That is how many yards the ball moved forward. That is all explained in the first 12 pages of the rulebook. After that come 32 more pages explaining what to do if you get a letter code (DL, LB, OL, RB, WR, F, Long, INC, INT, DB, DL*, LB*, or QB).
Using each and every one of these codes allows you to simulate interceptions, tackles, fumbles and injuries just like a real game of professional football. And it will take longer than a real game of professional football to do it. This game is for stats-obsessed football junkies who are living without power. It is hideously complex and involves a lot of table-checking. Apparently they forgot to write in any action or excitement.

NFL Showdown
Setting: It's NFL football.
Game Play: It's NFL football.
That's it. In this, the second game in the Showdown series (MLB Showdown is the first, in case you care), players carefully and meticulously recreate a game of professional football. Instead of, oh, going outside and playing it themselves. And, sadly, it can take longer to play this game than an actual game of football.
Each player comes with their team. This consists of one Quarterback and two players of each of the other positions (Linebacker, Safety, Linemen, etc.). The players also construct a deck of plays. This can be up to 25 different cards, but must have at least 8 Offense plays and 8 Defense plays. Finally, each player has a deck of Strategy cards. These are your actions, and function as the timer for the game.
Now, this game runs the ragged edge of my definition of a CCG, because in addition to the cards, you need a board / playmat, counters, pencil, paper, d20, and The PlayGrid. They might as well have packaged this as a boardgame. Actually, they kind of did. More on that later. So by now you're probably wondering what the heck a PlayGrid is. Good question!
That's all the PlayGrid is.

No. 2 QB couldn't find his way to San Diego
Buccaneers notebook By Tom Shanahan
UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER
January 26, 2003 T ampa Bay backup quarterback Rob Johnson may not get much playing time, but that doesn't stop the Disney folks from signing him to an agreement just in case fate makes him the Super Bowl MVP. Backup quarterbacks have to be prepared in case of an injury to the starter, and so do advertisers who produce commercials. Johnson made two starts and played in six games in the regular season. He's 57-of-88 for 536 yards and one touchdown, with two interceptions and a quarterback rating of 75.8. Johnson's problem is he was sacked 19 times in his limited playing time. Starter Brad Johnson was sacked 21 times in 451 pass attempts. Rob Johnson's value as an NFL quarterback has fluctuated since his days as a promising backup behind Mark Brunell in Jacksonville (1995-97), his acrimonious years with Doug Flutie competing for playing time in Buffalo (1998-2000) and his post-Flutie season as the Bills' starter (2001). In a couple of the offseasons, the USC alum who keeps a home in Laguna Beach had hoped to land in San Diego.

1973 Topps Football Cards
By Patrick Mondout Topps massive set of football cards for 1973 grew to 528 cards - a figure it would remain at for a decade. The increase in the size of the football card set coincided with an increase in the size of the basketball card set and a decrease in the size of the baseball card set One unusual feature of this set is that none of the cards feature any wording on the fronts that would indicated the player is was an NFL All-Pro nor is there an All-Pro subset. This was the first Topps set to be released all at once instead of in series and it was the last to feature a card of Joe Namath as Topps and his agent never agreed to terms again. The predominately orange backs featured a brief biography, statistics, and a cartoon with a trivia question. Rookie cards for 1973 include Franco Harris, Ken Stabler, Bob Kuechenberg, Ken Anderson, Jack Youngblood, Jack Ham, Dan Dierdorf, Art Shell, Jim Langer, and Dwight White. 1973 Topps at a Glance Back Checklist Wax Pack Playoffs Boyhood Photos Leaders
