AFC: Booker gives Miami a boost
By wire services Published August 24, 2004 DAVIE - Receiver Marty Booker was named a team captain in Chicago just days before getting traded. The title might serve him well in Miami, where the Dolphins have been looking for someone to right the ship since running back Ricky Williams retired. The Bears dealt Booker and a third-round draft pick to Miami on Saturday in exchange for Pro Bowl defensive end Adewale Ogunleye Booker joined his new team Monday, giving the Dolphins a much-needed boost after a series of unexpected setbacks on offense.

1998 Review
Fortitude in his beliefs was always Reggie's strength
January 23, 1999 Michael Bauman Football was more than a game for Reggie White. It was a pulpit. Football was a way for White to advertise his fundamentalist faith. The better he played, the better his teams played, the larger the potential congregation became. Nobody who knew him questioned White's faith or his sincerity or his intentions. Occasionally, people might question his information. But the faith and the sincerity and the intentions were always in place. We speak here of intentions larger than even sacking the quarterback. Reggie White did more of that than anybody in the recorded history of professional football. His work as a defensive end was singular, indisputable and the definition of greatness.

Monday, April 26, 1999 Husker secondary looks deep
Story last updated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 1999
If it wasn't for a couple of players who need the summer to recover from injuries, Nebraska secondary coach George Darlington would be ready to start the 1999 season tomorrow. What's not to love for Darlington? The Cornhuskers will return everyone from last season, including All-America candidates Mike Brown and Ralph Brown. Providing Erin Swiney (groin) and Joe Walker (knee) recover fully from injuries, Darlington's unit will also be deep. Throw Clint Finley, Keyou Craver, Dion Booker, Mike Demps and DeJuan Groce into the mix, and it appears there will be a full-fledged war for playing time. And that's the way Darlington likes it. "The nice thing is that we're going to have real good competition, which will really be helpful to us," Darlington said. "We have some options as to who plays where and it's going to be an exciting fall." The only thing that seems certain about NU's secondary is the Browns. Ralph, a senior, has started since his freshman year and will be the Huskers' right cornerback.

    Fantasy Football
Oh yeah, another reason why blogging has been light... I am in thirteen fantasy football leagues this year, which is way, way too many. Eleven of them are ESPN leagues, and I made the playoffs in eight of them. I am now in the finals of all eight of them as well. In one of the other leagues, I made the playoffs but havenow been eliminated. Que sera sera.
In the most important league, a keeper league which I have been part of now for thirteen years, we are down to the final four, and yes, I am still in it. I will spare you all the details... for now. In related news, I think Terrell Owens may be the most talented, unsportsmanlike asshole in the NFL, but I'm still sorry to see him hurt. Especially because we now won't get to see Andy Reid in tights. Well, there's always next year. I hate to see anyone physically hurt. Which brings me to Robert Ferguson and DD. A brutal hit that was unnecessary, but I don't think DD was trying to paralyze him. Safeties do look to inflict punishment, that's a fact of the NFL. But punishment and injury are two different things. It is easy to forget how fast everything happens in the NFL. Anyway, I get to watch the greatest show on turf here in St. Louis and the three ring circus that is Mike Martz. Lucky me.
