by Will Stewart, TechSideline.com Monday night's Advance Auto Parts Hokie Hotline show originated from Miami, where the men's basketball team was preparing to play the Miami Hurricanes Tuesday night. The show featured Virginia Tech Associate Athletic Director John Ballein, women's basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson, and men's basketball coach Ricky Stokes. Prior to any guests being on the air, Barek in Blacksburg called and asked how this year's football recruiting class ranks with previous recruiting classes. Bill Roth gave the standard "we won't know for several years" answer, and he talked about how strong the 1998 class was, with Vick at the top, but also with players like Willie Pile, who was ranked #31 in the state by the Roanoke Times but became an All-Big East player. Roth noted that the Hokies didn't have any top-5 (in the state) QB's or running backs in this year's class, but did at other positions. He said that from 1988 to 1996, VT only signed four top-5 players in the state (so of the 45 players available who were top 5 from '88 to '96, VT only got four: Tyrone Robertson, Ken Oxendine, Cornell Brown, and Maurice DeShazo), while UVa signed the #1 player "like, nine years in a row." But in the last three years, Tech has signed eight of the fifteen top-5 players available.

Packers RB Ahman Green is a game-time decision for Monday night's game against the Rams. If Green can't play Najeh Davenport will get the start at RB for Green Bay.

Raiders Head Coach Norv Turner says RB Tyrone Wheatley will likely play in Sunday night's game against the Broncos. Wheatley made it through a full practice Friday according to the Contra Costa Times.

Redskins kicker John Hall will be back this week for Washington.
Randy is ready: Vikings WR Randy Moss is ready to play after missing the last 3 weeks. Minnesota's Head Coach Mike Tice had put a play limit on Moss earlier this week but removed it and said "The only thing that's holding him back is endurance in his legs and not necessarily (from) the injury, he feels like he has training camp legs now; he hasn't done anything in five weeks. He worked extremely hard Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Now, he's going to stretch and get himself feeling as good as he can feel by Sunday."

WESTERN HIRES DEFENSIVE LINE COACH
Former Viking George Booker returns to sidelines
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - George Booker, who played on the first Western Washington University
Booker, 37, returns to coaching after a two-year absence. He brings 10 years of experience coaching at either the NCAA Division I or I-AA level, nine of them working with the defensive line.
He last coached at the University of Idaho in 2002 following two years at San Diego State University. During that stretch, Booker mentored five student-athletes who reached the National Football League.
Booker also was an assistant for six years at Montana State University and one season at Cal Poly.
A four-year letter winner and three-year starter at defensive tackle for Western, Booker received all-Columbia Football Association honorable mention in 1992, helping the Vikings reach the NAIA Division II national playoffs that season.
