Cal alum Steinberg has mixed feelings about Saturday's football game.
By Patrick Kinmartin Published: Tuesday, October 5, 2004 Media Credit: Photo courtesy of Leigh Steinberg Enterprises Conflicting interests. Super agent Leigh Steinberg, a Cal graduate, has represented several former Trojan football players in the NFL.
Leigh Steinberg has mastered the art of negotiation, if it's possible to do so.
Recognized widely as the man who revolutionized the practice of sports management over the past few decades, Steinberg has thrived as a "super agent" by negotiating more than $2 billion in deals for his clients. But this week he finds himself stuck between two sides of an offer that won't be easy to finagle through.
At one end there is California, Steinberg's alma mater and launching point for what has been a prosperous career. At the other there is USC, the place his father graduated from with an athletic program that has turned out many of his top clients.
