What is Football
What Happened in 2001 Links A football field is one hundred yards-one hundred and twelve yards if you count the end zones- long and fifty-three and one third yards wide. To score, a team has to run or pass the ball up field until they get into the end zone. When they get into the end zone that means they get six points. If they kick the extra point and it goes through the field goal posts, then they get another point which would make it seven points total. You could also go for two points after you score a touchdown. There is a line of scrimmage which the offense and defense line up on. If anyone on either team passes the line before the quarterback says hut, then they are off sides and are charged with a five yard penalty. Football Positions On offense there is a quarterback, fullback, halfback, wide receivers, ends, tackles, guards, center, and tight ends. On defense there are defensive backs, linebackers, and linemen. Offensive Center: The center has two very important jobs. First he snaps the ball then blocks his assigned man. The center should be about the same height as the quarterback so they can exchange the ball well. He should also be big enough to block.

2004 NFL Mock Draft - Now Seven Rounds!
With the results of the NFL Scouting Combine taken into consideration, About Football's 2004 NFL Mock Draft has been expanded to a full seven rounds . The first two rounds include thoughts on each pick, while the last five rounds offer a brief prediction for each team.
Of course, the latest free agent signings will change things up a bit, so look for another update as soon as the free agent signing period cools down.

Owens Trade Highlights Day-Two of Free Agency
On the heels of a very active opening day of the free agent signing period, one player that was expected to be one of the most sought after free agents in this year's market found a new home as a result of a trade instead. The San Francisco 49ers, who unexpectedly retained the rights to wide receiver Terrell Owens because of confusion regarding a deadline to void the final years of his contract, traded the disgruntled receiver to the Baltimore Ravens for their second-round choice in this year's draft, pick No. 51 overall.
Owens, of course, had expected to be a free agent at this time, and it appeared the 49ers were going to make little effort to re-sign him, but he failed to void his contract in time, based on a collective bargaining agreement that was signed .

The Ravens will pick up the final three years of Owens' contract, which is worth about $17 million overall, but the enigmatic wideout stands to lose millions since he likely would have pulled in a signing bonus approaching the amount left on his original deal.

Key Questions Heading into the 2002 Training Camp
By Eric Kennedy There were a number of reasons why the Giants were a 7-9 disappointment last season. The NFC Champion 2000 Giants were relatively injury-free. But the 2001 version was hobbled with a number of nagging injuries to players such as Tiki Barber, Ike Hilliard, Greg Comella, Ron Stone, Keith Hamilton, Kenny Holmes, Cornelius Griffin, Jessie Armstead, and Jason Sehorn. The play of the left side of the offensive line (Lomas Brown and Glenn Parker) deteriorated. The defense had to break in three promising, but green, players in Will Allen, Will Petersen, and Brandon Short. The special teams were downright dreadful. Most importantly, Kerry Collins played poorly until the last quarter of the season. And who knows what type of emotional toll the events of September 11th and the ensuing charity efforts at close range had. Last but not least was the typical Super Bowl letdown. Yet despite all of that - if the Giants had just managed to hold onto two late 4th quarter leads against the Eagles, then they would have won the NFC East for the third time in five years. (And don't get me started on the game the officials gave to the Rams). My point? THIS IS NOT A BAD FOOTBALL TEAM. IN FACT, IT COULD BE QUITE GOOD. SHHH...DON'T TELL THE REST OF THE LEAGUE THAT.

CHARLIE IN THE TREES HOME
WHO IS CHARLIE?
On an episode of TV's "South Park," role model Cartman once warned everyone to "Watch out for Charlie in the Trees."
And I like to think that'll set the tone for my Outsports.com column. I like to think of myself as somewhat dangerous, or cunning, but above the fray, watching down upon the sports scene like a slimmed-down version of the Slice Blimp. Or the Fuji Film Blimp. Or the Shamu the Killer Whale for Seaworld Blimp.
Only I'm not in a blimp. Nor am I a blimp. I'm not even in the trees, in actuality. I'm just above it all.
You may be wondering: what's up with him? Why is he qualified to write a sports column for the premier Web site for gay athletes and athletic supporters? (Cheap pun, I know, but there are some thing's that I'm just not above.)
Why am I qualified? Well, I will have you know that I am experienced with all facets of the sports scene due to the fact that I share my house with a dark, muscular, good-looking retired athlete.
OK, so the retired athlete is a ex-racing greyhound that I adopted. Greyhound racing is a sport. And he is cute as a button.
