He said he turned down scholarship offers from Louisiana Tech and Sacramento State. "I've always wanted to play for the Warriors," said Mauia, who moved from American Samoa to California when he was 11. "I record all of their games (on cable), and I watch (the videotapes) every day, over and over." He even watches the blowout losses to Boise State, Fresno State and Southern California. "You can learn from watching any of their games," Mauia said. "I watch them to keep up that football mentality. I don't want to lose that feeling. I can't wait to play for them."

"I'm looking forward to playing for the Warriors," said Jazen Anderson, a 5-foot-11, 220-pound running back from Moorpark (Calif.) College. Anderson said he will earn an associate degree this month, fulfilling an NCAA eligibility requirement for an incoming transfer, and report to the Warriors' training camp on Aug. 4. He will have three years to play two seasons. "I know it's going to be a great experience for me," he said. "My other choices were Utah and Arizona State. Utah is where my brother attended school, but I wanted to make a name for myself. I knew (UH) coach (June) Jones was the way to go because my brother was telling me great things about him."

You can also edit your ranking list by cutting and pasting, can save it to work on later, and can e-mail your list straight to us from the web page. Your single stage draft list should have up to 250 players on it. Fantasy Football: The thrills of draft day
By John Wick
and Brian Scrobel
Special to Packer Plus Aug. 21, 1996 There is no greater thrill to fantasy football players than draft day. Blood-pumping, adrenaline-flowing, tunnel-visioned fun. Recently we assembled some of Milwaukee's best sports minds to hold our first Packer Plus Fantasy Draft. Joining us on draft day were Len Kasper of WTMJ Radio, Kevin Hunt of Channel 4, Steve "The Homer" True of WISN Radio, Dan Needles of Channel 12, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Mike Vandermause, Andy Fenelon and Brad Zimanek of Packer Plus joined us for a 14 round event. The rules remained very simple with each team needing to start one quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers and/or tight ends and one kicker. Each team is allowed unlimited trading but is restricted to two free agent pickups during the year. The scoring system drew the most discussion. As we warned earlier, different leagues have different scoring systems that will force owners to adjust strategies. For this league, all TDs are worth 6 points, with bonus points available for longer scores. Likewise, all field goals are worth three points, with bonus points for longer kicks.

Fantasy Football: NFL Week 9 Breakdown
So much has been said about the busts of the first half of the season that most fantasy owners are looking past the surprises that are contributing in their leagues. For every star that appears to be burning out, there are new stars on the horizon. If you look at the positives of the first half, you will find many unexpected contributions to fantasy football. Listed below are our top ten surprises for the first half of the 1996 season.
  • 10. Michael Jackson, WR, Baltimore We knew he was good, but he is reaching elite status.
  • 9. Chris Chandler, QB, Houston He is not just keeping the job warm for Steve McNair.
  • 8. Jamal Anderson, RB, Atlanta Younger and faster than Ironhead. Streaky scorer.
  • 7. Anthony Johnson, RB, Carolina Three straight 100-yard games as a starter.
  • 6. Irving Spikes, RB, Miami He made Terry Kirby a 49er and Bernie Parmalee worthless.
  • 5. Eddie Kennison,WR, Rams The only fantasy player from St. Louis.
  • 4. LeShon Johnson, RB, Arizona His speed has made him fun to watch.
  • 3. Keith Jackson, TE, Green Bay Not a lot of catches just a lot of touchdowns.

    Jamal's return brings hope
The return of Jamal Anderson should boost the Falcons.
Photo: Allsport Atlanta Falcons: Division: NFC West; 1999 record: 5-11; Head coach: Dan Reeves (4th season). WHEN the dust settled on Atlanta's loss to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami, critics suggested the Falcons would struggle to reach such lofty heights again. Those words angered the Falcons and saw them enter the 1999 season in determined mood. However, star running back Jamal Anderson was lost for the year in Week 2 with a knee injury and the magic spark that seemed to surround the 1998 campaign could not be recaptured. Heading into the 2000 season, Atlanta have welcomed a fit-again Anderson back with open arms and hope he can be the key to another magical journey to the Super Bowl.

Ron McBride Head Football Coach Ron McBride was announced as the new head football coach at Weber State University on Dec 8, 2004. McBride is the school's eighth head football coach since the school attained four-year status in 1962-63. McBride brings nearly 40 years of coaching experience on the high school, junior college and four-year level to the Wildcat football program, including 13 years as head coach at the University of Utah. McBride comes to Weber State after spending the past two years coaching the inside linebackers at the University of Kentucky under head coach, Rich Brooks. It is the fourth time he has returned to the state to serve as a football coach. In 1990, McBride was tabbed as the head coach at the University of Utah where he served for 13 seasons. Under his direction, the Utes posted an overall record of 88-63, the second most wins by a coach in the history of Utah football. He took the Utes to six bowl games during his tenure, a note worthy feat considering the Utes had played in just three bowls games in the previous 97 years. His teams posted bowl wins over Southern California, Arizona and Fresno State. His best season came in 1994 when the Utes won a then-record 10 games and attained the highest post-season ranking, at the time, in school history climbing to No. 8 in the USA Today/ESPN poll and No. 10 in the Associated Press poll. In conference games, he guided the Utes to a 58-42 record and won a share of two conference championships (1995 in the WAC and 1999 in the Mountain West). McBride excelled in the rivalry games within the state of Utah. His Utes dominated Utah State (11-2), and held their own against perennial power Brigham Young. Utah won six of their last 11 against the Cougars after losing 16 of the previous 18 before he took over.
