1998 skedde det i Stockholm Astronomi är dessutom ett extremt populärt ämne. Allmänheten är mycket intresserad av ämnen som förmörkelser, meteorskurar och rymdprojekt. Dessutom finns ett stort intresse för astronomi i massmedia. Flera "testprojekt" i skolor har visat att astronomi är det perfekta sättet att entusiasmera och intressera alla elever som annars ofta blir uttråkade av studiet av andra ämnesområden. Genom vårt vitt spridda nätverk av verksamma i astronomiundervisningen i Europa, kan våra medlemmar utbyta erfarenheter internationellt. Lärare och elever uppmuntras att samarbeta med grupper utomlands och att använda våra etablerade kontakter med professionella astronomer. Som medlem kan du också prenumerera på EAAE:s e-postlista, i vilken du kan skicka och läsa cirkulationsbrev som går ut till alla andra prenumeranter. En eller flera av våra medlemmar i Sverige har också varje år möjlighet att delta i EAAE:s sommarskolor, som äger rum på olika ställen i Europa. I somras hölls den i Tyrolen i Österrike. Medlemmar kan också publicera artiklar i vårt newsletter och annat material på vår website.

  • that scientific and mathematical literacy and a workforce trained in science and technology are essential to maintain a healthy population, a sustainable environment, and a propsperous economy in any country
    that astronomy, when properly taught, nurtures rational, quantitative thinking and an understanding of the history and nature of science, as distinct from reproductive learning and pseudo-science
    that astronomy has a proven record of attracting young people to an education in science and technology and, on that basis, to careers in space-related and other sciences as well as industry

    A STRONOMY E DUCATION The Observatory Education Program is conducted both at the Observatory and at remote locations. As well as tours of the Observatory, staff conduct talks for Primary Schools, High Schools, Universities and clubs. Astronomy field nights (telescopes in the open) are regularly conducted by arrangement. A telephone " HOTLINE " (9293 8109) is updated regularly, especially during times of astronomical activity of public interest. Each year the Observatory publishes an astronomy handbook for amateurs, which contains charts and easy to understand information, with times in Western Australian Standard Time. INFORMATION ON HOT TOPICS IN ASTRONOMY The following topics may be of interest: these are available as a published set as the Perth Observatory Project Kit, along with 12 A4 pictures of the planets and other objects.
