World Space Week 2002 Report For World Space Week, a National Salon on Popular Astronomy was held in Constantine which brought together associations from the various parts of the country to celebrate the Week. Sirius Astronomy Association a prominent youth association decided a year ago to hold a National Salon in celebration of World Space Week 2002. Under the hospice of the Cultural Consultative Committee of the City of Constantine, it started planning a series of events, with a decision in a late stage to involve several well known Astronomy Associations, each representing a part of Algeria. The Salon was held on the week next to the WSW due to the Nation wide Municipal elections held on the 10th of October with no public activities tolerated during the period prior to that date. Yet the various school districts were informed of the WSW celebration directly, and tens of various educational institutions in the Constantine area actually displayed the WSW celebration poster during the weeks prior to the event. A particularly vigorous media campaign was initiated in early September, and since late September till the week itself, ads were read on the air put graciously by the Cirta FM radio station, a government owned station, informing the public of the various events planned for the occasion. All in all, close to 1000 posters were distributed and posted at various public places, including some 150 buses and minibuses, the various Youth Centers…It is to be noted that almost all the major newspapers notified the public of the event, especially since the APS (Algerian Press Service), the official press agency put two wire bulletins on the events.

23. Algeria 2003
In addition, various amateur astronomy associations from different parts of the country participated in this second Salon.

World Space Week 2003 Report The Algerian Space Agency (ASAL), the National Center for Space Technology (CNTS)and the Research Center in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics (CRAAG) presented the achievements and activities of Algeria in the space sciences. The scientific program of lectures was even richer than in the previous year as six lectures were given during the Salon by professionals. A special viewing session of the video "SpaceView" from the Hubble Space Telescope Institute was held, with Arabic translation and followed by a debate. In addition, various amateur astronomy associations from different parts of the country participated in this second Salon. The Salon also included a "smarties corner" with many activities and hand-on projects, which was well attended throughout the three days of the Salon. Fifty prizes were distributed to the laureates during the ongoing competitions held throughout the three days. A special competition was held on Thursday afternoon with participation of 300 school children from the various parts of Constantine. The competition/show "Ten slides, ten questions" organized by a school teacher working closely with the Sirius Association, consisted of 20 questions, ten for each age category, all related to space science, geography and astronomy. Prizes were distributed to the winners of each category.

The Venus Transit and the VT-2004 project
On June 8, 2004, Venus - the Earth's sister planet - passed in front of the Sun as seen from the Earth. This very rare event (no living person had ever seen one!) lasted about 6 hours and was visible from most of Europe, Africa and Asia. It generated unprecedented attention from the media and the public, not just in these areas, but all over the world. This website describes the VT-2004 project that was related to this celestial event and which aimed at transforming curiosity into knowledge and interest in science through a broad set of actions. It was launched by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the European Association for Astronomy Education (EAAE) , together with the and the Observatoire de Paris in France, as well as the

04 August 2000 In a show of determination, members of the Orange County Astronomers club (OCA) braved a major forest fire to attend their monthly dark-sky observing session on July 29. In the sky that night many were hoping to glimpse a rare event: A comet being destroyed by the sun's heat. But they were not expecting to have to contend with a fiery event much closer to home. The Pechanga forest fire, one of the largest of the year in southern California, blocked the major road to the observing site and could be seen lighting up the skies to the southwest of the observatory. But members and a few visitors still found their way to the OCA observing site near Anza, California, many having to drive long distances around the mountains to reach their destination. With telescopes ready, observers wait for nightfall at a stargazing gathering sponsored by the Orange County Astronomers club.

It has a scientific advisory committee for support that is required in its projects and endeavours. Some of the functionaries of CIAA are like this: There are zonal representatives of the CIAA representing Northern, Western, Southern, Eastern and Central India. These representatives coordinate activities in their own region. There are also coordinators for observational instrumentation and popularisation aspects. The Confederation pictures You, the Amateur, like this: You are interested in astronomy as a hobby since at least three years. You may be interested in observations of the sky or building a telescope of your own or forming a close group of friends who observe the sky together for the fun of it. You may be seriously involved in an astronomy project like photographing the whole sky, the Messier objects or you may want to observe the occultations of the stars by the Moon, Asteroids etc. You may be hunting to find a new comet! The Benefits from CIAA are many :
  • The three coordinators of Observation, Instrumentation and Popularisation issue circulars to all the interested members free of charge.

We are very pleased to inform you that on November the 22nd, 1996 at Liceo Scientifico "A.Vallisneri" in Lucca (Italy), the
A.S.A. (Astronomy Student Association) was constituted. Its main purpose is developing knowledge in the field of Astronomy.
In order to fulfil this task, the A.S.A. announces PERIODICAL MEETINGS , presenting and discussing significant
astronomical topics or events. As a matter of fact, every two or three months an observational meeting is organized,
using some telescopes belonging to Liceo "A.Vallisneri" scientific laboratories or to various members of the association itself.
About four times a year, the astronomy network magazine HELIOS is published by our association.
In case relevant astronomical events occur, the A.S.A. usually sets up PHOTOGRAPHICAL CAMPAIGNS
In this Internet site you can also find our LOGO and all Helios ZIPFILES , in order to let you save them on your computer,
