Thanks for stopping by - we're glad to have you visit. We have monthly meetings and regular star parties where we get to observe all the wonders in the night sky. We have enough telescopes to share, so even if you don't have one, come on out! This website tells a little about the San Angelo Astronomy Association, but the best way to get to know us is to come and hang out with us. Located in San Angelo, Texas, the SAAA was started by Dr. Roy Moon and has been in existence since 1962. We hold our meetings on the first Tuesday of every month at the Angelo State University Planetarium at 7:00 p.m. Our meetings are open to members and to the general public who are encouraged to attend in order to learn more about our organization and its functions. We also hold additional public star parties for special astronomical events. Our members make themselves available to schools and other organizations for public star parties. Star parties are observing sessions where members bring privately and club owned telescopes to a dark remote location ( away from city lights ) and view the night skies. As of February 2004 we are a member of the NASA Night Sky Network.

Updated 07-May-05 05-Jul-03 22-Jun-03 18-Aug-03 19-Jun-05 Welcome to my amateur astronomy website
Current Moon Phase I am a deep sky fanatic (a geek, as those who know me often say), especially galaxies and nebulae, but I also like to look at the planets and the Moon. I haven't really been too interested in comets, variable stars, etc. but try to keep an open mind as I may travel that path in the future. I've logged all of Messier's 110 (109), many from midtown Tucson, AZ using a 6" reflector and have completed a Messier Marathon using a 20" Obsession reflector. I had originally planned to capture images of all of the Messier objects using the 20" and an SBIG ST-237 CCD camera, but I never got around to that - mainly because I had a hard time not using the 20" for visual observing. Now, I no longer have the 20" Obsession, having sold it in order to purchase a 25" Obsession. I received the 25" primary from Galaxy Optics on January 7, 2003 and received the 25" Obsession telescope on January 8, 2003. I've been out viewing with the new scope every new moon since. If I have but one word to describe the 25" Obsession: Awesome. My goal for this website is to share my enthusiasm for amateur astronomy. I plan to

Amateur astronomers occasionally seek advice on telescope buying, learning the sky, observing skills, and so on. Here are some thoughts. (My credentials? I do visual astronomy: I have logged about 13000 observations of over 5000 objects, and used some thirty telescopes and binoculars enough to know them well. I have made about ten optical surfaces to 16-inch diameter. My forte is deep-sky work: I am especially proud of logging the Sculptor Dwarf Galaxy (10x70 binocular), Maffei I and Einstein's Cross (Celestron 14), and Simeis 147 (6-inch Maksutov). My interests led to a physics PhD, studying the interstellar medium from a spacecraft: By training I am an astrophysicist, but I have amateur status in the visual my thesis work used extreme ultraviolet light.) What to do First.
Written words do not replace experience. Join an astronomy club, go to observing sessions, try others' telescopes. You will learn a lot. To find clubs, ask at science stores, museums, and planetariums. College physics or astronomy departments may know, though clubs aren't their line. The magazines

ASTRONOMY WEEK APRIL 10 - 16TH 2005 ASTRONOMY DAY APRIL 16TH 2005 CELEBRATE Everyday! Beaufort South Carolina Astronomer Group ASTRONOMERS HERE IN BEAUFORT! Please email me for information I am still working on our web cam project of bringing local live streaming video astronomy to the Internet. Any suggestions on how to do it are welcome!! It is a simple idea of bringing live astronomy to people who are shutins or handicapped, and do not have astronomy telescopes and equipment, via live streaming video to their home computers. That way more people, who are denied the opportunity of viewing the skies we take for granted could enjoy the wonders of astronomy, daylight solar and night time viewing without the discomfort of bugs, humidity, light pollution, etc..
