edit Childhood/ Early career
Andrew was the youngest of the five children of N. C. and Carolyn Bockius Wyeth. He was home-tutored because of his frail health, and learned art from his father during long periods together. Both shared the same love for rural landscape, a sense of romance, and a strongly held feeling for Wyeth family history dating back to 1645 in America. Andrew started drawing at a very young age, and with his father’s patient and skillful guidance, he mastered figure study and early took to watercolor, and later learned egg tempera from brother-in-law

John F. Kennedy T he renowned American artist Anrew Wyeth posseses no college degree, nor does he have a high school diploma. In fact he only attended elementary school for a couple of short years. Yet no other modern painter has achieved such popularity and acclaim among educated circles. Ironically, Wyeth's realistic watercolor and tempera paintings became super popular in the 1960s just at the time when abstract expressionism was in vogue at the New York galleries. Wyeth's images of country people and landscapes have admirers calling him a "painter for the people" (His critics accuse him of being little more than an illustrator.) The true essence of Wyeth's art goes be yond his characteristic, though deceptive, illusions of realitythe craggy stone mill, snow-swept hill, or pensive model, It lies In his mystery of more enduririg eIements, like the delicate balance he achieves between spontaneity and discipline, and the bold abstact designs with which he builds his paintings. Much of the elan of Wyeth's art is rooted in the environment that molded his childhood and values and the special mentorship he shared with his father, illustrator N.C. Wyeth, from whom he learned both moral and artistic judgment.

About the painter Andrew Wyeth
Andrew Wyeth was born in 1917 in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. In 1937, in New York, he had his first separate exhibition with watercolours, which was fully sold out. Andrew Wyeth has developed a personal and sophisticated technique in watercolour and egg tempera. In 1948 he painted Cristina’s World, which was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Now this picture has almost become an American National symbol, and it also became the turning-point in Andrew Wyeth's career as a painter. In the sixties he was - next to Picasso - the highest paid living artist. In 1963 he received the president’s Medal of Freedom by J. F. Kennedy, and in 1990 he received, as the first artist, the Congressional Gold Medal. In 1971 Andrew Wyeth started, in secret, a long series of paintings of a local woman by the name of Helga Testorf. This work was not finished until 1985. These paintings are today circulating between large American museums as The Helga pictures. Andrew Wyeth’s chronology of exhibition is given on the address: http://www.awyeth.com

U.S. painter. He was trained by his father, N.C. Wyeth . His subject matter comes almost entirely from the area around Chadds Ford and around his summer home in Cushing, Maine. Though his technique is precise and detailed, he uses it to achieve an unreal, visionary quality. His palette is restricted largely to earth colours. His famous Christina's World (1948), depicting a polio victim seemingly trying to climb a hill, exemplifies his mastery of unusual angles and his use of light to pinpoint time. Between 1971 and 1985 Wyeth secretly painted Helga Testorf, his neighbour in Chadds Ford, creating hundreds of images of her, including nudes. He was the first painter ever awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1963) and the first artist to receive the Congressional Gold Medal (1990). His son Jamie (b. 1946) has also had a successful painting career. document.writeln(AAMB2);

Wyeth has been the recipient of numerous honorary degrees. In 1963, Andrew Wyeth became the first painter to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which was conferred by President John F. Kennedy. In 1977, he became the first American artist since John Singer Sargent elected to the Acad©mie des Beaux-Arts. In 1980, Wyeth became the first living American artist to be elected to Britain's Royal Academy. In 1987 Wyeth received a D.F.A. from Bates College. Source: en.wikipedia.org Andrew Wyeth, born in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, is the son of the talented illustrator N. C. Wyeth. Fragile as a child, young Wyeth received his art training from his father, who taught him the precision of line and accuracy of drawing that make his work technically excellent. His color is always subdued-often subtly monochromatic. His earliest work, done in 1929 when he was twelve, is pen and ink, precise and delicate in line, elegant in style in the best tradition of illustration. Wyeth then turned to the use of pencil and colored washes, then to watercolor drawings. At the age of sixteen, influenced by Winslow Homer, he was creating bold impressions of light, tone, and movement. Source: 3d-dali.com

Master Bedroom Andrew Wyeth prints are phenomenal! They capture and invigorate the senses as this artist satisfies the popular notion that art should be faithful to nature. He has been referred to as "the people's artist" having without a doubt the largest number of admirers of any artist alive today. Wyeth is well known for his interpretations of the austere rural landscapes of Pennsylvania and Maine and the people who live there. Based on his contribution to American realism he is deemed to be one of the most celebrated living artists of all time. Many Andrew Wyeth prints are endearing reflections of American history. The charming abandoned farmhouses along with many of his other rural themes painted mainly in watercolours and tempera, are a part of the nostalgia associated with pre-World War II America.
Bradford House Painting Style
When Andrew Wyeth painted he often began with a realistic approach, but in his passion to create, the artwork would take on an air of surrealism. Andrew Wyeth prints display technical brilliance along with an obvious affection for the subjects he chooses to paint. His inspiration for art was nurtured by his father

(b. 1917) See also: American Art VIEW LIST OF WYETH IMAGES ON THE WEB "As Andrew Wyeth became as much a celebrity as Henry Fonda (who admires and imitates his work), his reputation as an artist declined to the point where writing about him was an eccentricity requiring explanation. For most of us, his stardom has cannibalized his art to a degree unprecedented by any other artist with pretensions to seriousness. Informed opinion, when it thinks about the matter at all, has removed his art from its genteel inheritance of Eakins and Homer , and relegated it to the company of such an amiable mythmonger as Norman Rockwell. "Not all this is due to disenchantment with the art itself. Wyeth's prices have been engineered to extraordinary heights. Reproductions have saturated our tolerance but not the market. Every aspect of his life has been endlessly celebrated and whatever he has to say has been written down and turned into best sellers. Perhaps this is nothing more than the media testing his commercial viability, as they do with every successful artist. That viability depends on what public expectations the artist can confirm.

Biography:

Born in Pennsylvania, Andrew Newel Wyeth studied under his father, book illustrator Newel Convers Wyeth. After his father’s death in 1945, he began to paint watercolor and tempera landscapes and mixed his own pigments to create his distinctive subdued palette. He also was interested in painting the rural life in his home state, Pennsylvania, and in Maine. His portraits of these people are almost photographic in their degree of realism.

Turkey Pond, Andrew Newell Wyeth (b. 1917), the youngest child of painter N. C. Wyeth and Carolyn Brenneman (Bockius) Wyeth, exhibited precocious artistic talent. He studied art formally with his father as a teen, drawing in charcoal and painting in oils, the media of choice for N. C. Wyeth. It was during the family's annual summer vacations in Port Clyde, Maine, that Andrew was able to experiment with other media to find his own artistic voice. Clouds and Shadows (1940), a painting of the scene below his studio in Port Clyde that featured his friend and model, Walter Anderson. Wyeth's brother-in-law, Peter Hurd, introduced the young artist to egg tempera, the medium that would allow Wyeth to achieve the superb textural effects that distinguish his work. It was quick drying and had a fresco-like surface when dry. Those characteristics appealed to Wyeth, who has commented to Richard Meryman in Andrew Wyeth: A Secret Life that, "Oil is hot and fiery, almost like a summer night, where tempera is a cool breeze, dry, crackling like winter branches blowing in the wind. I'm a dry person, really. I'm not a juicy painter. There's no fight in oil. It doesn't have the austere in it." Wyeth used this "austere" medium to create Her Room (1963), the haunting image of a room in his home in Cushing, Maine. The title refers to his wife, Betsy James Wyeth, whom he met in Maine on his twenty-second birthday. She has taken an active role in her husband's career from the very first day they met, introducing him to her long-time friend Christina Olson, who would become the subject of his iconic painting
