Andy Warhol Posters
Andy Warhol is one of the most important artists of this century. He was known primarily as the "father of Pop Art". Andy Warhol posters encompasses a diversity of images from those of Mao to Elvis, from drag queens to Jacqueline Kennedy, and Coca-Cola to the electric chair. A pop cultural icon himself, his social role is just as influential as his artwork.

Warhol became famous in his own lifetime for his pop art and remains a legend today, though many are unaware of the magnitude and the diversity of his work. Andy Warhol posters, prints and quotes are found everywhere in popular culture, but many don't know they come from this man. Warhol was responsible for the notoriously overused "everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes" quote. This quote is often misused and should really be read as "in the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes." Andy Warhol posters are probably most famous for the use of repetitive images, including Campbell's Soup cans and other

"Where's Andy Warhol?"
posted January 14, 2008 at 12:15 pm In 1984, Maureen Dowd, now an op-ed columnist, was a reporter on the "Metropolitan staff" of the New York Times . This excerpt (from a 5112-word piece) ran in the Times magazine on November 4, 1984, with the headline "9PM TO 5AM." (It's behind the paywall here This evening, the theme is ''confinement,'' and the club is decorated with dolls in pajamas chained under water, a caged rabbit and go-go dancers armed with guns and dressed in Army fatigues. ''Where's Andy Warhol?'' asks a young punk, dragging on a joint and scanning the crowd. ''I want to get a good look at him.'' ''I think he went to Limelight,'' says his friend. ''We should go there immediately,'' says another. They scurry off to Limelight, unaware that their quarry, wearing corduroys and a backpack, is standing unobtrusively at the bar. ''This is the best bar in town,'' Andy Warhol says. ''You could take everything out and put it in a gallery.''

  • Andy Warhol Animals - My interests in art and the environment don't often collide, so I was surprised to see Andy Warhol mentioned on ENN (the environmentally friendly CNN). He's the last person I would of expected to see on the Environmental News Network. Andy Warhol Wig - An Andy Warhol wig has sold for $10,800 at a recent film and entertainment auction by Christie's. The silver mop that was worn by Warhol also came with three pieces of toupee tape still stuck inside it. Rich Artists = Bad Art? - Vincent struggled for his art, so did Modigliani, but artists like Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, and more recently Damien Hirst could afford to pay an army of assistants to work for them. Andy Warhol Dollar Signs - Andy Warhol would be loving the recent art auction action around his art. He seemed to enjoy making money as much as he enjoyed making art, so to see his dollar sign works going for double and quadruple their auction estimates would give the man great pleasure.

This toy was inspired by Andy Warhol's famous paintings of Marilyn Monroe. Warhol created the paintings using silkscreens to create a kind of "assembly line" art. The name Andy Warhol is synonymous with Pop Art. Clearly the most important and influential artist of the past quarter century, Warhol maintained a level of creativity already legendary before his untimely death in 1987. Starting out as a technically innovative commercial artist in the world of New York advertising, in the early 1960s Warhol began adapting the commercial process of silkscreening to the world of fine art and created iconic masterpieces such as Marilyn Monroe, Ads and Myths, among his most famous images. Warhol took ideas and images directly from the mass media, from the 1960s cultural revolution, television, movies, advertising, and photojournalism. Painter, graphic artist, manager of a rock band and filmmaker, Warhol had a huge influence on subsequent generations of artists. His original and graphic works are found in major museums worldwide, and today are more widely sought-after than ever before.

Warhol's disengagement with an art form whose course he radically altered is legendary; the image of a permanently distracted Andy turning on a camera, corralling some of his "superstars" to primp and prance in front of it, then wandering off on some new tangent seems irrefutable. Almost synonymous with Pop Art, Andy Warhol was a painter, photographer, filmmaker, and publisher. In the mid-20th century he produced iconic silkscreen paintings of subjects as mundane as soup cans and as glamorous as Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. These remain hugely popular, and have sparked countless imitations. Creating your own Pop Art-inspired images with Photoshop is easy, and great fun, too.
Any portrait can be used for a silkscreen-style image, but those with strong edges work well. Look, too, for an image in which the subject is staring directly at the lens, preferably with a slightly distant expression.
