Pablo Ruiz y Picasso showed artistic ability at an early age, and when he began to study art seriously in Barcelona and Madrid, he was already a skilled painter. In the early 1900s he visited and eventually settled in Paris, where he was part of a vibrant artistic community that included Gertrude Stein . Although greatly influenced by other artists in Europe and beyond, Picasso was inventive and prolific, and early in his career earned a worldwide reputation as an innovator. Along with Henri Matisse , he is considered one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. His enormous body of work spans so many years that art experts generally separate his career into distinct phases, such as the Blue Period, the Rose Period and his most famous contribution to modern art, Cubism. Picasso, unlike so many before him, was an international celebrity as well as an important contributor to the world of art.

Pablo Picasso was born in Spain in 1881 and was to become the most famous, versatile, prolific and influential artist of the 20th Century. The son of a painting and drawing master, he was remarkably precocious, mastering academic draughtsmanship when still a child. By the 1920s Picasso had established himself as a world famous painter and from that time
on his reputation and status continued to grow.
It is our good fortune that Picasso had such a great love of printmaking. By the time he died in 1973 he had produced a substantial body of original etchings, lithographs and linocuts, which rank with the greatest prints of the 20th Century. While the ownership of an original painting is, for the majority of us, out of the question, his original prints made in comparatively small editions are still relatively accessible.

"I do not search, I find."
Rarely in the annals of history an artist becomes one of the "figures of the century." But this is the case of Pablo Ruiz Picasso. His name, his versatility, his art personify the 20th century, and is considered as the zenith of modern art.

In his life time, Picasso had already become a synonym for "modern art." Today he still considered a myth, a legend of the arts; his poise as an artist is intricate and vibrant in a myriad of facets. Many persons played important roles in his life and have left us with testimonies. The abundance of existing documents about his life and his art, but above all to his individuality, allow us to access his art. Nevertheless, the formidable biographies are only a drop of information compared to the torrent of torrent of opinions, critiques, findings, and books about his arts for decades.
Picasso was born in Malaga on October 20th of 1881. Son of a painter and master drafter, Picasso was trained so that by the age of nine he began to paint and sketch. Under the watchful eye of his father, and through his encouragement, Picasso followed rigorous training in La Coruña, Barcelona , and Madrid , so much so that by the age of 15, he had become a master drafter as well, and his art ready to appear in galleries, and expositions.

(1881-1973), Spain. The initiator of Cubism and probably the paramount influence on the art of the 20th century. He did not seek to imitate form, but to create form. From a leader of the postimpressionist school, he evolved into the creation of a language of form, a visual music. His large mural composition Guernica (137k) presented the tragedy of the Civil war in Spain. His inventive gift, which led him from one experiment to another, inspired many followers. He was also one of the first to appreciate the expresiveness of African sculpture. In his erotic gravures the supreme artist expresses the supreme sexual man. He was the outstanding influence in modern art among his contemporaries. A new, virtual museum is now dedicated to

Picasso

Pablo Ruiz y Picasso was the most influential and successful artist of the 20th century. Painting, sculpture, graphic art, and ceramics were all profoundly and irrevocably affected by his genius.
As the son of a professor of art, Picasso's talent for drawing was recognized at an early age. An advanced student at the Barcelona Academy of Fine Arts from the age of 14, he experimented in his youth with nearly all of the avant-garde styles current at the turn of the century, an early demonstration of his lifelong ability to assimilate aesthetic ideas and to work in a variety of styles. For Picasso, the meaning of art was to be derived from other works of art, and not directly from nature. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's work had a significant impact on his early paintings, as did the work of Paul Cézanne . Their influence, among others', can be detected in the paintings of Picasso's "blue period" (1901-04), which was stimulated by his exposure to life and thought in Paris, where he made his home after 1904. In works such as

56. Pablo Picasso Cubism
An overview of the history of pablo picasso s cubism.

Pablo Picasso cubism
marriage analytical cubism . Analytical cubism lasted until 1911 and is characterized by monochrome, relatively unemotional paintings that depict rather uneventful subjects, such as still lives. Many paintings of analytical cubism are faceted (see for instance Georges Braque's "Mandola", below), a technique that allows the artist to disect and reconstruct his subject in a way that depicts it's essence rather than it's appearance. Although largely abstract, the faceted technique still produces a recognizable image of the subject.
The technique of faceting originated from Georges Braques - it was his way to depict a natural object. Picasso didn't so much facet natural objects, but used the geometry of Braques' faceted paintings to create a style that was abstract in essence, almost pure abstract art. So cubism refers to the styles of both Braques and Picasso, although Braques' cubism has a recognizable figurative objective, while Picasso's cubism served as the link between Braques' style and pure the abstract art that followed from cubism (such as Piet Mondrian and suprematism From 1911 on cubism moved in a direction which is now known as synthetic cubism . In both analytical and synthetic cubism the subject would be fragmented, in analytical cubism giving rise to a crystalline geometry, while in synthetic cubism the fragmentation would be somewhat reduced in size, making the subject more recognizable and less formal. In both styles a subject would be reconstructed in intersecting, sometimes transparent planes.

PICASSO On October 25, 1881 Pablo Picasso was born to Jose Ruiz Blasco and Maria Picasso. Pablo was born in Malaga, Spain. He was a very famous, controversial and important art icon.
Pablo was born in a Plaza (park); luckily his uncle was a doctor and helped with the delivery. The first school he went to was parochial, parochial schools are religious where the instructors are nuns, priests and people of the church. Due to dyslexia he fell back but was able to catch up with the curriculum. In 1892 he enrolled in an institute where his father taught art. The dyslexia made school difficult, and Pablo never really benefited from schools or learning. Dyslexia would trouble Picasso for the rest of his long life.
Pablo's father taught art, this got him interested in painting. Picasso also painted because he was born with an ability to see people the way they wanted to be seen, the way they were seen, and the special way Picasso saw them. Pablo's earliest drawings depict pigeons, and throughout his life he kept self-portraits, these paintings expressed how Picasso was feeling at that time in is career. Pablo made many paintings; some are The Young Ladies Of Avigon, Old Man with Guitar, and Guernica. In his later career, Pablo would sometimes complete three portraits in one day.
Picasso became famous by dazzling people with his artistic abilities. He went through many stages in his career, including The Blue Period, The Rose Period, and Pablo Picasso was the creator of Cubism. The Blue Period was brought on because of his friend's suicide. All painting of the Blue Period was overlaid or hued in blues. The blue in the painting signified his deep sorrow and mourning of this friend's death. During the Rose Period, Picasso fell in love. In this period his paintings and drawing portrayed his happiness. Picasso's Cubism Period contains many of his most famous and sought after paintings. Cubism is the art of painting with shapes and straight lines. Some critics say that his dyslexia influenced his Cube paintings. Pablo saw things out of order, backwards or upside down. Picasso painted this way. Pablo influenced people to paint, this type of influence could have only came from one person, Picasso.

Pablo Picasso Biography
October 25, 1881, Malaga, (Spain)- April 8, 1973, Mougins (France) Master Spanish painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso is arguably the greatest artist of the twentieth century. He is best known as the co-founder, along with George Braque, of cubism, though his achievements reach far beyond that movement, as there was scarcely a 20th century movement that he didn´t inspire or contribute to. As the first artist to enjoy the attention of mass media, his restless changing of style and love of controversy projected him into genuine superstardom, perhaps never to be surpassed again in the art world. Picasso was born in Malag¡, Spain to a middle class family. His father was a painter and a professor of art at the School of Fine Arts. It was from him that Picasso learned the basics of art training. Although he attended art schools throughout his childhood, he never received a formal degree after leaving the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid after one year of study. In the decades following World War II, Picasso continued to produce paintings and prints of considerable power, always remaining relevant and influential. He died in 1973 at the age of 91, having earned a level of world wide fame and admiration that no other modern artist has achieved.
