Tel: 212-736-6666; Fax: 212-736-6767; e-mail: info@vagarights.com In 1950, 80-year-old Maxfield Parrish painted this dramatic landscape, capturing the scenic beauty of the Castle Hot Springs area, northwest of Phoenix. The receding canyon is thought to be near where the artist stayed during his two visits to Arizona in 1901 and 1903. The sky is painted in what some call "Parrish-blue." He laid one transparent color on top of another, in a technique called glazing. Parrish is widely recognized as one of the most popular artists of the 20th century. He is primarily known as an illustrator who painted hundreds of covers for Harpers Weekly Colliers Century and Scribners magazines. He continued to paint until he was 91. A poster with this image is available in The Museum Store.

Maxfield Parrish Screen Saver (Win95/98/NT/Mac) (Retail Packaging) (MPARRISHDR) Publisher: Pomegranate Screen Saver Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966) was the most popular American Painter of the twentieth century. "Popular" in its most populist sense: there was a time when one of every four American households had a Parrish reproduction framed on the wall. His work appeared in Collier's for decades, in the other big mass-market magazines-Scribner's, The Ladies Home Journal, Hearst's and Harper's- in advertisements for light bulbs, bicycles, and Jell-O, and in a number of books, including Edith Wharton's Italian Villas and Their Gardens (1904). With their shapely sylphs, riotous flora, extraordinary light, and wildly dramatic settings, Parrish's neoclassical fantasies are still among the American artworks we love the best. This software is easy to install on Mac- or PC-based systems, our screen savers can be set up to cycle continuously, changing images at any interval the user selects, or used as wallpaper. (That is: one image comes on at startup and stays put until a different one is selected.) Image sets can be customized so that the user need only see favorites. Detailed information (media, dimensions, date, etc.) for each image, and a concise biography of the artist, may be had at the click of a mouse. List of Images: Stars, 1926, Riverbank Autumn 1938, Enchantment 1913, Ecstasy 1929, Dream Days 1900-1901, Hilltop 1926, The Lantern Bearers 1908, The Reservoir at Villa Falconieri, Frascati 1903, Garden of Allah 1918, Griselda 1910, The Enchanted Prince 1934, Interlude 1922, Aquamarine 1917, Puss in Boots 1914, June Skies 1940, Sunrise 1931, Sleeping Beauty 1912, Knave of Hearts: Lady Violetta About to Make Tarts 1921, Jack the Giant Killer 1909, Gateway of the Botanic Garden, Padua 1904, Spring 1936, The Knave Watching Lady Violetta Depart 1924, Reveries 1913, The River of Ascutney 1942, A Florentine Fete 1911-1913, Daybreak 1922, Morning 1922.

69. Zen And The Art Of Maxfield Parrish
As the rainbow faded away and the sun set on the gaudy yellow and purple hues of a maxfield parrish landscape, I found that hard to believe.

Zen and the art of Maxfield Parrish
(a Land Rover adventure in the American Southwest)
by T.F. Mills
I was under the car and at the end of my rope, literally and figuratively speaking (in that order). It was the middle of nowhere well, somewhere in the lonely, parched hinterlands of New Mexico and I was staring at the underside of my Land Rover as hot oil dripped on my face. The problems seemed unsurmoutable, and my head was blowing more gaskets than my car. I figured this was the end of the line for one of us. I wondered why nobody had ever written Zen and the Art of Land Rover Maintenance. That's when I heard a serene voice from heaven saying, "Hey, Rover Man!" He didn't say, "Fear not..." but he may as well have, for at that moment I entered a rather a surreal nirvana. But let me back-track a little. Sali (that's my 1966 Land Rover 109", named for the 12th century Kurdish desert warrior-king), my son Sandy and I had set out on a 2,000 mile round trip from Denver to Tucson at the peak of summer. When we reached the desert it was 120 F. That's when the trouble started. The Gods Must be Crazy III.
