Lissitzky's works are complexed with constructivism of Russia and present with the way of constructivism, but actually they contain somewhat different contents with present art theories on the logic and space organization. The differences between internal and external concepts of Proun are caused by the fact that the nature of his work is formed on the basis of the digital space and image but the way of presentation is done on the basis of analogue media of his period. Lissitzky entered a period of abstract art inspired by revolutionary ideas when Marc Chagall invited him to teach graphic arts, printing, and architecture at the People's Art School in Vitebsk in 1919. There Lissitzky met Kazimir Malevich and was impressed by his system of nonobjective art, Suprematism. Lissitzky joined UNOVIS (Affirmers of the New Art), a collective of students and teachers that Malevich founded in order to promote Suprematism and bring it to the city's streets and squares. By 1920, however, Lissitzky had invented his own form of abstract art, for which he coined the term Proun (Project for the Affirmation of the New). Lissitzky's Proun compositions utilize shifting axes and multiple perspectives to convey the idea of rotation in space. "We brought the canvas into circles," he declared in 1921, "and while we turn, we raise ourselves into the space." The section of the Web site on Vitebsk juxtaposes the black square of Malevich, seen in his pamphlet Suprematizm. 34 risunka (Suprematism. 34 Drawings, #14) with works by Lissitzky that were directly inspired by Suprematism and produced as part of his activity with UNOVIS. Lissitzky's Lenin Tribune (Proun no. 85), #12) incorporates a tribune, or speaker's platform, that was originally designed by Ilya Chashnik, a fellow UNOVIS artist. The red cube supporting the platform symbolizes the "mark of the world revolution in the arts." Following Lenin's death in January 1924, Lissitzky montaged a photograph of Lenin onto a little podium and placed him on the platform under a screen bearing the word "Proletarii" (Proletarians).

Man-Amplified front and a back cover that Lissitzky designed. Though he passed the entrance exams, Lissitzky was rejected from art school as a young man because the Tsarist regime placed a quota on Jewish students. Jewish themes and Hebrew letters were prevalent in his earliest work, but soon became replaced by his passion for Suprematism, an art movement that rejected the imitation of natural shapes in favor of fundamental geometric forms. The Hebrew letters later resurfaced in his most abstract architectural designs. All throughout his life, he remained loyal to Soviet ideology and produced some of his most striking propaganda works in his later years.

The Russian Jewish painter Eliezer Lissitzky was a devout follower of the Communist movement, during a period when there was no contradiction between revolutionary Communist activities and the growth and spread of Jewish culture and art. In 1919, two years following the beginning of the revolution, he painted a series of watercolors describing the story of Had Gadya . Not part of a complete illuminated haggadah , the sequence is intended to stand alone, carrying a message which transcends the message of Passover. It is a show of support for the Bolshevik victory, conceived of as the victory of the weak over the strong, the good over the bad, as the victory of amended justice. The series exposes the tension in Lissitzky's own ideological stance: his acknowledged rootedness in Judaism and his attraction to the new and better world promised by the Communists.
The fascinating element in this sequence is the symbolic language which the artist uses for expressing his ideas. This language is based on the visual and verbal traditions of East European Jewry among which he grew up, and this is the group to which he appeals in his work. Lissitzky tries to persuade the Jewish public of the justice of the Communist cause by using a traditional language, Yiddish, characteristic Jewish symbols and values through the Had Gadya story. He proposes to the Jews of Russia a religious-political message, in which the Revolution is the fulfillment of Judgment Day and the redemption of the Jews.
