Muy influido por John Ruskin desde mediados de los a±os 50, se le asocia frecuentemente al Prerrafaelismo Inchbold naci³ en la ciudad de Leeds ; era hijo del propietario de un peri³dico de Yorkshire. Tras aprender la t©cnica de la litograf­a , estudi³ pintura en la Royal Academy Schools. Sus primeras obras de importancia fueron las acuarelas ; su estilo fluido y ¡gil le distanci³ de los pintores victorianos del momento. Posteriormente conoci³ al cr­tico Ruskin y viaj³ con ©l a Suiza , en 1856 y 1858. En los Alpes , conoci³ y trab³ relaci³n con el pintor prerrafaelista John Brett . A partir de ese momento cultiv³ un estilo fino y preciso, muy absorbido en el detalle. Importante fuente de inspiraci³n para su obra fue el poeta William Wordsworth Su primera obra expuesta en la Royal Academy fue "Estudio de la naturaleza, La tarde" (1857). John William Inchbold: An Overview Victorian Web Home Visual Arts Victorian Painters John William Inchbold ... Paintings Introduction In their catalogue entry for the painter's beautiful watercolor, View from Montreux , Scott Wilcox and Christopher Newall relate the facts known about his artistic training and early career: Inchbold received some instructions in drawing in his native Leeds before going to London to study color lithography with Louis Haghe, and in about 1847 he entered the Royal Academy Schools. He commenced his professional career by exhibiting a group of watercolors at the Society of British Artists in the winter of 1849-50. His early style of watercolor painting was loose and atmospheric; the views that he made of London and the Thames bear an unconscious similarity to Turner 's 1819 views of Venice. In 1852 a work of Inchbold's at the Royal Academy was seized upon by William Michael Rossetti as a praiseworthy example of the rising Pre-Raphaelite lanscape school. Later inthe 1850s Inchbold came under the sway of John Ruskin , who encouraged him to paint Alopine subjects and who commented on his exhibited works in Academy Notes [p. 154]

John William Inchbold (1830-1888) John William Inchbold was a landscape painter who, under the strong influence of John Ruskin , produced several Pre-Raphaelite paintings. He was born in Leeds, the son of a Yorkshire newspaper owner, and trained as a lithographer. He then studied painting at the Royal Academy Schools. He knew Ruskin from 1854, travelling with him to Switzerland in 1856 and 1858. While in the Alps he met John Brett , also under the influence of Ruskin. His first picture at the Royal Academy Exhibition was Study from Nature, Evening (1857). He had some 30 pictures at the Academy, and Ruskin often singled them out for special note and praise, although he disapproved of much of Inchbold's later works. Inchbold painted in Italy, France, Spain, North Africa and Switzerland as well as in England, and in addition to painting and etching, also wrote poetry, publishing a volume of his poems in 1877.
