Brother Ray Meets Mr. Mike
Written by: Michael O'Donoghue

... and the entire cast
[Home Base. The entire cast stands around the grand piano as Ray Charles sits at the keyboard and plays. The female cast members sing Charles' hit version of "I Can't Stop Loving You" ... like whitebread Raylettes.]
[singing] I can't stop loving you
John Belushi: [slips on sunglasses, imitates Charles, sings]
It's useless to say [Applause but then Belushi sings the wrong line:] To live in memory ... of a lonesome time [Belushi and Charles crack up at the error] Sing the song... [singing] I can't stop wanting you Ray Charles: [also sings the wrong line, to applause and much amusement from the cast] I've made up my mind So I'll just live my life In dreams of yesterday [The song ends. Applause.] John Belushi: You picked up on it. Ray Charles: Yeah, I picked up on it. John Belushi: He picked up on it. Ray Charles: I - I take it it's music you like...

The Setting
As the Mr. T/Mr. Clean battle Finally Ray, in an extra-angry mood just because he's old, stands and says "I'll beat your sorry Motown butt in anything! Right now!!" Stevie stands up and shouts, "You're on old-timer. Name the game!!" At which Ray yells, "No, you pick" "No, you pick." "No, you pick."...(ad nauseum). After about 5 minutes, a voice comes from the corner, "How about darts?" Both men turn and look: it's Helen Keller!! The two men accept the challenge: first one with three bullseyes. Helen agrees to serve as the referee; her decisions are final. Who do you like, Steve, in this parlor game face-off?
Stevie Wonder
vs.
Ray Charles
The Commentary
STEVE: Stepping aside from my usual method of picking the winner (i.e. straightforward analysis), I am going to have to choose based on gut feeling and instinct. As with the "Death Star vs. Enterprise" match, the name says it all. With a name like Stevie Wonder, how can I go wrong? Let's look further into the name issue. Obviously, "Stevie" is a variant of a superior name, often associated with greatness. "Wonder" speaks for itself. He must be a walking miracle in sunglasses. On the other hand, "Ray Charles" has nothing going for it. We all know that "Ray" is a "drop of golden sun." Will that help at darts? I think not. As far as "Charles" is concerned, all I have to say is "Prince Charles." Sharing a name with Dumbooops I mean the heir to the throne is an obvious detriment. The name issue is so one-sided in this match that it simply cannot be ignored.

67. The Death Of Ray Charles
Just thought you would find it interesting, but ray charles did a song with the band INXS with the late michael Hutchence.

Ray Charles "To be a Raelette , you have to Let Ray." Ray Charles came into this world as Ray Charles Robinson from Albany, GA, and he left it as Ray Charles Robinson with a huge list of professional accomplishments as well as a string of mistresses, two marriages, nine children (with five different women), twenty grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He became blind at seven (glaucoma), and b y a lot of accounts was a terrific guy, but his womanizing, drinking and drug use were legendary. Ray had struggled with heroin addiction for two decades. He was arrested three times for drug violations . He quit music for a year to get off it. He claimed to be lucky, because he had the "bread to buy decent junk... and a "high grade of justice." From that point on he went on to make music history, earning twelve Grammy awards in the course of his career. He appeared on television and in movies as well, including a great cameo in The Blues Brothers with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. Later on he appeared in a series of successful commercials for Pepsi, uh huh He was diagnosed with liver cancer in May of 2003, but publicly it was announced he had hip problems. Even as the illness progressed, Ray still left the
