Bis zu seinem Tod war sein Werk und seine Person nur kleineren Kreisen bekannt, innerhalb welcher sein Ruhm allerdings fast schon legend¤re Z¼ge annahm und begeisterte F¼rsprecher in K¼nstlern fand, wie Camille Pissarro Claude Monet Paul Gaugin oder Auguste Renoir . Aus der Vielzahl der von ihm sp¤ter beeinfluŸten Maler ragen Henri Matisse und Pablo Picasso heraus. Kunstgeschichtlich ordnet sich C©zanne ein in die Linie der groŸen Meister des Kolorismus , insbesondere seit der venezianischen Renaissance , beginnend mit Giorgione und Tizian , ¼ber Rubens und Nicolas Poussin , bis zu Eugene Delacroix und Gustave Courbet . Intent³ conseguir una s­ntesis ideal de la representaci³n naturalista , la expresi³n personal y el orden pict³rico. Entre todos los artistas de su tiempo, C©zanne tal vez sea el que ha ejercido una influencia m¡s profunda en el arte del siglo XX Henri Matisse admiraba su utilizaci³n del color y Pablo Picasso desarroll³ la estructura de la composici³n plana de C©zanne para crear el estilo cubista ). Sin embargo, mientras vivi³, C©zanne fue un pintor ignorado que trabaj³ en medio de un gran aislamiento. Desconfiaba de los cr­ticos, ten­a pocos amigos y, hasta , expuso s³lo de forma ocasional. Son p¨re, Louis Auguste C©zanne, originaire de Saint-Zacharie Var ), descendant de petits artisans (drapiers, ferroniers, etc.) rep©r©s   Marseille depuis la fin du 16e si¨cle, poss¨de une chapellerie sur le cours Mirabeau . Aix e Parigi
Nella capitale frequenta numerosi artisti, tra cui Pissarro, Renoir, Monet, Sisley e Bazille. Pur non entrando a far parte del gruppo, espone ad alcune mostre degli impressionisti , tra cui la prima del 1874, da Nadar.
La sua partecipazione alla terza, quella del 1877, segna l'inizio del suo isolamento artistico.
Stabilisce un solido rapporto di stima e amicizia con Emile Zola
struttura dello spazio e ai volumi degli oggetti
Negli anni '80 dipinge le prime opere delle serie dedicate all'Estaque, alla Montagne Sainte-Victoire e ai Bagnanti.
Nel 1886 muore il padre. Incompreso e amareggiato per la pubblicazione de L'Oeuvre , rompe l'amicizia con Zola, che fu tra i suoi primi sostenitori. Si stabilisce definitivamente nella casa di famiglia ad Aix. I suoi contatti parigini si riducono all'invio di suo opere alle mostre.
Realizza nature morte, ritratti e paesaggi di Provenza.
La mostra allestita da Vollard riscuote infatti un gran successo, soprattutto tra gli artisti d'avanguardia. Anche il collezionismo comincia a guardare con sempre maggiore interesse al suo lavoro.
Sul finire del secolo Cézanne si può considerare ormai famoso e "arrivato". Espone al Salon des Indépendants e all'estero.
