Indeed, after the third Impressionist exhibition he would move away to Aix-en-Provence to work in isolation, never exhibiting with the Impressionists again.
Paul Cézanne's deep desire to pursue his independent vision prompted him to move away from Paris and withhold his works from the Impressionist exhibitions. However, he maintained a strong relationship with many of the core members, who always welcomed his support and his opinions.

Paul Cezanne Art
The French painter Paul Cezanne is one of the greatest of the Post-Impressionists, whose works and ideas were influential in the aesthetic development of many 20'th century artists and art movements, especially Cubism. Cezanne's art, misunderstood and discredited by the public during most of his life, grew out of Impressionism and eventually challenged all the conventional values of painting in the 19'th century through its insistence on personal expression and on the integrity of the painting itself. Paul Cezanne is regarded today as one of the greatest fore-runners of modern painting, both for the way that he evolved of putting down on canvas exactly what his eye saw in nature and for the qualities of pictorial form that he achieved through a unique treatment of space mass , and color Cezanne, the oldest of the Post-Impressionists, was born in Aix-en-Provence, France. A man of intensely emotional temperament, he came to Paris in 1861 possessed with enthusiasm for the Romantics. By 1872 Cezanne came strongly under the influence of the Impressionists, especially Pissarro. Less concerned than Monet or Pissarro with the scintillation of light of the haze of atmosphere, he stressed the tangible substance of objects and gave a more definite compositional structure to his paintings. As a Post-Impressionist, he passed through an Impressionist phase but became dissatisfied with the limitations of the style and went beyond it in various directions.

Cézanne, Paul: Portraits
Even Cézanne's pictures of people can be regarded as still lifes, because he demanded that his models sit absolutely still. Sitting for him was something of a nightmare. Not only was he foul-tempered, he was an extremely slow painter, probably the reason his subjects always look tired and sombre. Ambroise Vollard, the dealer who arranged Cézanne's first one-man show a century ago, posed 115 times for a single painting, sitting absolutely still "like an apple" and then Cézanne, dissatisfied, abandoned the picture with only two unpainted spots remaining. He told Vollard that with luck he would find the correct color and could finish the painting. "The prospect of this made me tremble," noted Vollard in his biography of the painter. In the artist's eye, there was no difference between a human sitter and a bowl of fruit, except that the reflection value and the palette were different. In the end, both his subjects and his fruit wilted.

48. Paul Cezanne - Artist Profile: His Life And Work
Artist Profile paul cezanne, French Post-Impressionist painter of the 19th century; brief biography and essay on the greatness and influence of his work
http://www.ndoylefineart.com/cezanne.html
@import url(http://www.homestead.com/~media/elements/Text/font_styles.css); Artist Profile:
I have chosen Cezanne for the first Artist Profile, because to my mind, he was the greatest painter ever. It is extremely difficult to say just why this is so - many knowledgeable writers and artists have tried, and admittedly failed. I will try anyway.
Cezanne was born in 1839 in the south of France. His banker father wanted him to study law, but the young Cezanne wanted something else. He and his childhood friend, Emile Zola, wanted to be an artist and a writer, respectively. Their heads were spinning with the new ideas of the day, and big dreams of their future glory.
At 15, he studied drawing at the local drawing academy, then at the proper time, entered law school. He eventually convinced his father to allow him to go to Paris to paint, where he attended sessions with a live model. He showed no particular aptitude for drawing up to this point. (At that time, at the academies in Europe, art in general, and drawing in particular, were taught with much 'academicism,' which means that strict rules were followed with regard to anatomical accuracy, and the proper means of instruction, which had been passed on for many decades in the same fashion.) From the start, Cezanne did not fit into this mold; at the same time, young students with whom he was to change the course of art, also did not fit into the mold: Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, and others. To attain success as an artist, it was then necessary to succeed at the official Academy, which was at the time tied to the government. Here one could get the commissions necessary to make a living as an artist.

Brief and Straightforward Guide Who is paul cezanne?

Who is Paul Cezanne?
ad_unit_target='mainAdUnit'; X Close this window Paul Cezanne is known as one of the most talented Post- Impressionist painters. Whereas Impressionism focused on light and color, the Post- Impressionists wanted more depth in their art with much more concentration on form. Paul Cezanne was also pivotal in art movements such as cubism and he influenced Pablo Picasso Paul Cezanne's work features an innovative way of representing nature, color and form by using an ordered method of artistic application. His approach inspired cubists and cutting edge artists. Cezanne said that "Everything in nature takes its form from the sphere, the cone and the cylinder" and cubism was founded on these principles of form. Pablo Picasso, along with Georges Braque, was a leader in the cubist modern art movement. The Post-Impressionist artists experimented with meaning outside just what the surface of the painting represented, yet were still influenced by Impressionism's use of light to add dimension to objects. Paul Cezanne and other Post-Impressionists experimented with brighter colors and sharper edges than the Impressionist works had shown. Cezanne is considered a master at creating form with color in both planes and brushstrokes. Born 19 January 1839 in Aix-en-Provence, France, Paul Cezanne was a banker's son and was raised in an environment of wealth. His family wanted him to become a lawyer and Cezanne did study law while also studying art. Eventually, however, he gave up law for art and went to the Academie Suisse in Paris to learn all he could and develop his talent. Paul Cezanne's early artistic influences included the works of Claude Monet and Gustave Courbet. It was Courbet who inspired Cezanne's layering of paint onto his paintings using a palette knife.

Paul C©zanne IPA [pɔl se'zan] January 19 October 22 ) was a French artist and Post-Impressionist painter whose work laid the foundations of the transition from the 19th century conception of artistic endeavour to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century . C©zanne can be said to form the bridge between late 19th century Impressionism and the early 20th century's new line of artistic enquiry, Cubism . The line attributed to both Matisse and Picasso that C©zanne "is the father of us all" cannot be easily dismissed. C©zanne's work demonstrates a mastery of design, colour, composition and draftsmanship. His often repetitive, sensitive and exploratory brushstrokes are highly characteristic and clearly recognisable. He used planes of colour and small brushstrokes that build up to form complex fields, at once both a direct expression of the sensations of the observing eye and an abstraction from observed nature. The paintings convey C©zanne's intense study of his subjects, a searching gaze and a dogged struggle to deal with the complexity of human visual perception.
