Francis Bacon (1561-1626) "took all knowledge to be his province." An equal breadth of interest has characterised the Francis Bacon Society, a unique literary association with more than a century's experience of interdisciplinary Renaissance studies. Bacon was a many-sided genius who has influenced scientists, poets and statesmen, has been studied from orthodox and unorthodox perspectives, and has attracted widely diverging interpretations. The Society is best known for its championing of the Shakespeare authorship question, and this remains of great interest. However, its expertise encompasses Elizabethan history, philosophy, cryptography and much else. Above all, Bacon's philosophy and the Shakespeare plays have provided inspiration for imaginative yet scholarly research, and the ongoing vitality of the Society testifies to the fruitfulness of this approach. info@baconsocietyinc.org

Sir Francis Bacon
English Philosopher
Francis Bacon is the Chief figure of the English Renaissance. His advocacy of "action science" influenced the culture of the entire English speaking world. Francis Bacon studied law at Cambridge and became Lord Chancellor in 1618. In the fullness of his power and reputation as Lord Chancellor of England, Bacon was impeached by Parliament for taking bribes in office, convicted, and banished from London and the law courts. Up to Bacon's time there existed philosophies rooted not so much in reason but in pure faith. Bacon was violently opposed to speculative philosophies and argued that the only knowledge of importance to man was empirically rooted in the natural world. Bacon insisted on collecting facts first, and then drawing theories from them - a method which is today called 'inductive', and which constituted a breakthrough in the approach to science. His 'Essays' have remained the most popular writing, his two greatest scientific works being 'Novum Organum' and 'The Advancement of Learning' in which he pleaded for the recognition of science. FRANCIS BACON'S THEORY of COMMUNICATION and MEDIA
Abstract: For centuries, Francis Bacon has been revered as a philosopher and as the founder of modern science—and honour which would have baffled him. He thought of himself as a grammarian, not a dialectician (philosopher), and as engaged in restoring the wisdom of the Ancients, not in founding scientific novelty. The "Novum" in the title of his major work, the Novum Organum (or Novum Organon ) was ironic and indicated both that the work was intended to supersede the dialectical Organon of Aristotle and that the work was in support of traditional learning and technique in reading the Book of Nature. In Part One of the N. O . he sets forth his theory of the bias of communication in the celebrated doctrine of the Idols; in Part Two he presents in detail his theory of communication—a theory already present in such other works as The New Atlantis and Of The Advancement of Learning Francis Bacon's theory of communication and of media permeates his work. Often called the father of modern scientific method, Bacon saw his mission as that of restoring in his time the wisdom of the ancients—his program called the

The Baconian System of Philosophy
This system takes its name from its founder, Francis Bacon, Lord Verulam, Viscount St. Albans , statesman and philosopher , born 22 January, 1561; died 9 April, 1626. He was the second son of Lord Keeper Bacon and Anne, his second wife, daughter of Sir Anthony Cooke and sister-in-law of Lord Burghley. In his thirteenth year (1573) he entered Trinity College, Cambridge where he studied under Whitgift. Before he left (1575) he had already acquired considerable reputation for his ability and learning. It was at Cambridge, as he later confessed to Rawley, that he fallen into the dislike of the Aristotelean philosophy "not for the worthlessness of the author to whom he would ever ascribe all high attributes, but for the unfruitfulness of the way; being a philosophy , as his Lordship used to say, only for disputations and contentions but barren of the production of works for the benefit of man . In which mind he continued until his dying day". In June, 1576, he was admitted to Gray's Inn, being destined for the profession of

Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626)
Father of Modern Science Francis Bacon was born in London, England on January 22, 1561. His father was an attendant to the Court of Queen Elizabeth I. Bacon was raised along with his seven older brothers and sisters at York House. He entered Trinity College in 1573. He pursued a career in law after the death of his father in 1576 and in 1584 became a Member of Parliament. In 1618 he became Lord High Chancellor - a position of royal prestige. Bacon is best known in the modern world as the "Father of Modern Science" for his development of the experimental approach to research. His life included episodes in the center of many historic events. As a result, he is one of England's most famous historical figures. In all the volumes of writing about this celebrated man, references to his homosexuality are most often omitted. Francis Bacon and His "Attendants" Although he married in 1909, it was common knowledge that Francis Bacon favored the company of his young male attendants. His mother wrote letters complaining of her son's choice of bed companions, although it seems that she was more disturbed by the class differences than the fact that they were male. Bacon wrote passionately on the virtues of "masculine love." "Although nuptial love maketh mankind, friendly love perfecteth it." - Francis Bacon - "Of Love"
