When the people speak, Extension listens. It's been that way since the Smith-Lever Act established the Cooperative Extension Service as the educational branch of the U.S. Department of Agriculture over 80 years ago. The mission of the Agricultural Economics Extension Program is to provide leadership for developing, delivering, and evaluating current and relevant agricultural economics and resource development educational programs for decision makers. Our vision is for Tennesseans to improve their knowledge, understanding, and application of economics to agricultural and rural issues. Extension assists people to:
  • Identify their needs, problems and opportunities

The Department of Agricultural Sciences was formed following the merger in 2000 of Wye College - a leading centre of research and teaching on agriculture, food and environment for over a century - with Imperial College London. Research at Wye today focuses on fundamental science underpinning the use of plants and animals, and the management and restoration of soils and biodiversity. This is matched by a strong programme in economic and social sciences, giving Wye a unique capacity to integrate research on the scientific and social dimensions relating to new technology for food, farming and the rural environment.
