Full Text Search On SQL 2000 Part 1 This article demonstrates using MS sql Full Text Search Engine to obtian web search sytle results by Don Schlichting. http://www.databasejournal.com/features/mssql/article.php/3441981
Extractions: By Don Schlichting Full Text Searching is a free, optional component of MS SQL 2000. When installed, it offers a vast array of additional string querying abilities. Full Text Searching allows for string comparisons similar to internet search engines, returning both results and a matching score or weight. With regular TSQL, string matching is usually limited to an exact match, or a wildcard match with the keyword "LIKE." Full Text Searching exceeds this by searching for phrases, groups of words, words near one another, or different tenses of words, such as run, running, and ran. In addition, if Microsoft Office Word or Excel documents are saved in the database, their contents can be searched like a typical varchar field. Full Text Searching is accomplished by installing a new service (Microsoft Search), and using key words in TSQL designed specifically for text searching. This article will demonstrate installing, configuring and using the Full Text Search engine.

How does one eliminate duplicate rows from a table? ... Back to Oracle FAQ Index Structured Query Language (SQL) is a language that provides an interface to relational database systems. SQL was developed by IBM in the 1970s for use in System R, and is a de facto standard, as well as an ISO and ANSI standard. SQL is often pronounced SEQUEL. In common usage SQL also encompasses DML (Data Manipulation Language), for INSERTs, UPDATEs, DELETEs and DDL (Data Definition Language), used for creating and modifying tables and other database structures. The development of SQL is governed by standards. A major revision to the SQL standard was completed in 1992, called SQL2. SQL3 support object extensions and are (partially?) implemented in Oracle8 and 9. Back to top of file What are the difference between DDL, DML and DCL commands?

How can one search PL/SQL code for a string/key value? ... Back to Oracle FAQ Index PL/SQL is Oracle's P rocedural L anguage extension to SQL . PL/SQL's language syntax, structure and data types are similar to that of ADA . The PL/SQL language includes object oriented programming techniques such as encapsulation, function overloading, information hiding (all but inheritance). PL/SQL is commonly used to write data-centric programs to manipulate data in an Oracle database. Back to top of file Internally the Oracle database supports two procedural languages, namely PL/SQL and Java. This leads to questions like "Which of the two is the best?" and "Will Oracle ever desupport PL/SQL in favour of Java?". Many Oracle applications are based on PL/SQL and it would be difficult of Oracle to ever desupport PL/SQL. In fact, all indications are that PL/SQL still has a bright future ahead of it. Many enhancements are still being made to PL/SQL. For example, Oracle 9iDB supports native compilation of Pl/SQL code to binaries.

Comparing Two SQL Databases With AdeptSQL Diff Offers an IDE for creating and managing database schema from sql scripts, includingmacro preprocessor, syntaxoriented editor, schema decompiler and http://www.adeptsql.com/
Extractions: and synchronization tool Diff tool: Introduction Screenshots Order now Revision history Documentation ... Adept SQL Tools Diff tool Downloads Ordering Quotes FAQ ... Contact us AdeptSQL Diff is a lightning fast and intuitive tool to visually compare and synchronize two MS SQL Server databases. The program scans both databases and displays the combined schema tree view, with all differences color-marked. Navigating through the database schema tree, you can see SQL definitions for individual objects (tables, view, stored procedures, etc) compared side-by-side in the larger panel to the right of the schema tree. You can produce difference scripts for any chosen part or for the whole schema. The schema matching engine generates effective update SQL for any schema difference you need to synchronize, trying to preserve the table data whenever possible. The generated scripts are displayed in a separate debugger-style popup window where you can edit them, execute them either uninterrupted or step-by-step, set breakpoints, turn on transactions and rollback on errors. AdeptSQL Diff a perfect tool to reverse-engineer your database schema.

This is presented at the MySQL AB web site, so it might well have certain biases... PostgreSQL vs MySQL discussion ... PostgreSQL vs MySQL: Which is better? Many of the commercial database vendors downright forbid the publication of comparative benchmarks, which makes it rather difficult to determine comparative performance. There is some fairness in this; squabbling between proponents of MySQL and PostgreSQL tends to take place when tests are presented. Benchmarks are almost always constructed in such a way as to favor the whichever database the benchmark-maker favors. Someone who prefers PostgreSQL is likely to construct benchmarks (and, for that matter, to use their database) in a manner that will favor

These are XML files that contain the definition of a database schema, e.g. tables and columns. These files can be fed into DdlUtils via its Ant task or programmatically in order to create the corresponding database or alter it so that it corresponds to the DDL. Likewise, DdlUtils can generate a DDL file for an existing database. DdlUtils uses the Turbine XML format, which is shared by Torque and OJB . This format expresses the database schema in a database-independent way by using JDBC datatypes instead of raw SQL datatypes which are inherently database specific. An example of such a file is: There are essentially two ways to use DdlUtils: In an Ant build script via the task provided by DdlUtils. You can learn more about
