[GF] Chandos provide a full libretto and very intriguing notes whilst the recordings are spectacularly open, although the Algerian Suite could have done with a little more intimacy. I have no knowledge of another 'Princess jaune' in the catalogues so collectors should snap up this issue which is indeed luxury programming. Ryiuchi SAKAMOTO (b. 1952)

David Tudor - Rainforest A student of stephan wolpe and a pal of John Cage, David Tudor (19261996) led two lives in America s postwar musical scene. http://www.moderecords.com/catalog/064tudor.html
Extractions: David Tudor, who passed away in 1996, was a brilliant musician whose musical career can be viewed in two parts. He was as "the" foremost avant-garde pianist of the 1950s and 60s - the great piano works of that period were in his repertoire, with countless premieres and compositions written for him by Brown, Cage, Stockhausen, Bussotti, Feldman, La Monte Young, Wolff, Wolpe and others. Tudor gradually traded in the keyboard to turn his attention towards composing for live electronics. His influence and effect on electronic music is as great as it was towards the piano. Tudor became an integral musician for The Merce Cunningham Dance Company with John Cage in the 1950s, a career which encompassed both aspects of his musicianship.

Extractions: There is a series of books with titles like, Foucault for Dummies, or Marshall MacLuhan for Dummies This beginner's guide is conceived in that spirit. "New Music" is now being used to denote "new pop muisic", a sign of the late stage of baby-boomer pop culture, projected 30 years beyond its vital phase. In that vital phase it didn't have to be called "new". Everyone knew it was "new". We spoke of "the new Led Zepplin album", certainly, but the genre was never "new music". It was rock music. "New" was only needed for rock after it became old. "New Music" has been used for at least 30 years to denote newly composed, formalized music"formalized" in that it circulates in musical notation, in hopes that many players and musical organizations will want to perform it, and that it will eventually become part of a canon of works assimilated into our collective musical consciousness, or, at least within the consciousness of a circle of overeducated and overspecialized misfits who are the custodians of that canon.
