Extractions: 8'7" (= 2'2" documents + 85 sound recordings) These materials were collected as a result of a project by the elementary music students of Edward Hines of Wendell, Massachusetts. During the 1993/94 academic year, the music students of Rowe Elementary School of Rowe, Massachusetts, Erving Elementary School of Erving, Massachusetts, and Sunderland Elementary School of Sunderland, Massachusetts wrote to a number of women composers to request scores and recordings of their compositions, as well as information about their lives, work, and musical training. The materials were donated to Sibley Music Library Special Collections in July, 1995. The collection contains a number of scores (mostly reproductions from the composers' manuscripts), many with accompanying recordings on tape, compact disc, video tape, or LP. Also included are the composers' biographical materials, resumes, and letters sent in response to the students' questions. In addition to providing access to the music of these composers, the collection offers information about their careers, training, and compositional processes.
Hum 2, Maggi Payne Her own program notes on a piece for trombone and tape written for trombonist Abbie Conant. http://www.osborne-conant.org/Hum2.htm
Extractions: Home Bios Music Theater Recordings ... Wired Goddess HUM 2 (2000) for Abbie Conant 7:00 Program notes by Maggi Payne When writing this multi-track work for trombone I could not help but to see the tie-ins to my work of 27 years prior, HUM. That work is scored for one live flutist and six taped flute parts (although it could be performed live with seven performers). HUM 2 is scored for one live trombone plus seven taped parts, although it, too, could be performed live with 8 trombones. The piece deals with expansion/contraction and involves spatial deployment over eight or four speakers. Ideally one should not be able to distinguish the live performer from the taped parts. The piece takes advantage of this surround capability with sounds traveling around, through, and across the space (all built into scoring of the piece), with many instances of extended techniques and delicate pitch alterations (of 2-7 Hz). If the listener is in a good listening position, the space should contractÑto appear to come very close (as all 8 trombones get very loud) and expand outward (as all 8 trombones get very soft).

Extractions: This is that special piece for your special choir: a tonal, a cappella, double chorus tour de force of minimalist techniques that sounds like...the desert! This piece repays careful study: the conductor who helps the singers identify repeated patterns, and the relation of each part to its counterpart in the other chorus, will accelerate the learning process. Your reward is four sections of differing programmatic effects, to be performed as one long movement.

The Savoy Gastronomes Bearing in mind that for most part the whole organisation has been kept together by voluntary work by two people in particular maggi Smit and Julian payne http://www.savoygastronomes.com/history.htm
Extractions: A History of the Savoy Gastronomes The original idea, born in 1971, was to recognise the tutorship and guidance given to Savoy Receptionists by Nicholas St J Brooks who was for many years Reception Manager of the Savoy. The best way to recognise the help that we received was to hold a dinner for him so this was arranged in 1971 at the Connaught Hotel, part of the Savoy Group. The sights were set high from the start and I don't think the Connaught had really too much idea who we were, as we had some nerve in going there. I suspect the management of the Connaught thought they were dealing with some really ancient dining club of Savoy clients who liked to shift location from time to time. I think we had formulated the name of the Savoy Gastronomes by the time we actually booked the private Marie Antoinette Room and I dearsay the name carried little weight. The name had not been our initial choice, as others less serious had been considered such as the green slip club, as green slips were used in the Reception office to designate a certain room status. However, although we were far from knowing much about food or wine, we certainly knew how to enjoy it and hence the name! A group of five or six "old" receptionists met many times to formulate plans for this dinner and they comprised, Michael Holland, David Ward, Tony Elliott, Julian Payne, Michael Duffell. During these meetings it was decided to get together as many former colleagues as possible to attend the dinner so Julian and the others set about networking like fury to establish contact with former colleagues. The nucleus was that to be invited one had to have been in the Savoy Reception office and not "there" now. Receptionists from other hotels within the Savoy Group were, and never have been, entitled to join in.
