From his early days as a musician, he was persuaded by his brother, Wong Ka Kui, to learn the keyboard, so that they could form a band. But Steve didn't like the keyboard and soon dropped it, and picked up the bass instead. He started jamming with his friends and formed a band of his own. But then, when Beyond's bassist left, Ka Kui requested Steve to join the band. Steve shares that working with his brother had been a great learning experience. Since the demise of his brother, Steve has written many impressive songs and further sharpened his ability as a song writer . He has recently written many compositions for various Hong Kong singers and they include pop queens Kelly Chen and Faye Wong. Currently Steve plays a major role in the group's song composition. There is no doubt that his brother's tragic death has affected him personally and this is reflected in his music, in which many songs have been in dedication to his brother. Fans will agree that besides being an incredible bassist, he has a great voice too.
