Extractions: all-baseball.com , part of the most valuable network , presents: "I'll be home soon, they started throwing the curveball today." by Jean-Pierre Allard What was I telling you just the other day in my abnormally-long missive about Nats pitching coach Randy St. Claire working wonders with Javier Vasquez (should GM Bowden continue to be smart and get him from Arizona this summer) just like hes doing with work-in-progress starter Ryan Drese? Time to give credit to the former Expo pitcher for the Nats solid pitching performances this season thus far. Randy has handled the pitching staff, both starters and relievers, especially well this year and Im sure is a huge reason for the outstanding performances of the likes of Cordero, Ayala, Carrasco, Patterson, Loaiza and now Drese. Im not sure if he taught the 36 year-old Hector Carrasco to throw a nasty 85-mile an hour slider, but he sure is nurturing him, and the others, in the fine art of pitching to spots and not giving in to hitters. Now, if he could just turn his attention to Tony Still A Junior Armas, although Slim Roommate Number 1, aka Harper, argues, likely correctly, that the enigmatic pitcher will soon start putting up consecutive quality starts. Wouldnt that be welcome news? Then maybe Bowden would only need to secure a Derek Lowe (or Ted Lilly, Jamie Moyer, Andy Pettite, etc.) by July 31.
Extractions: all-baseball.com , part of the most valuable network , presents: "I'll be home soon, they started throwing the curveball today." by Jean-Pierre Allard Well, the Nats home winning streak is over at 12. And the Expos record of 13 consecutive wins at home is intact. Sometimes, its best to just leave things where they are. And for that, I thank the Toronto Blue Jays - never once thought I could find anything with that team to be thankful for. At least, the good guys took 2 of 3 from those vexing Jays, who all those years thought they were Canadas number one team, just because they had the good fortune of having as World Series adversaries Bobby Cox one year (1992) and Mitch Williams the very next (1993). Today (Tuesday) is another day. Yesterday, I was saying that the nucleus of the current edition, save for all the Jim Bowden excellent acquisitions since they interimized him last fall, learnt their trade down in a no-pressure situation in Montreal the last 3-4 years. In light of that, and the fact that it is a very slow news day - God, I hate those off-days - I thought I would offer some notes from a time when all of us die-harders were still in denial mode vis-à-vis the Expos impending relocation. Some passages have since been edited to account for changes since then.

Extractions: By Diane M. Grassi It's early January, and after what some critique as a "slow" Hot Stove Season, many of the big player deals have already been put on paper, although not technically etched in stone, given that some team required physicals still linger for some before the ink finally dries. Yet there are still some worthy free agents unsigned and players looking to be moved, such as 1st baseman Carlos Delgado and outfielder Magglio Ordonez. But by February 24th, the MLB deadline to report for spring training, we will know to which teams these players will belong. For possible trades such as one involving Sammy Sosa, they may wait until the regular season starts. But since the Carlos Beltran sweepstakes appears to be wrapping up with the Mets, it sets the stage for several teams to get going fast with their other pressing needs. It appears however, according to Yankees management, that most of the New York Yankees' work is done. Given their decimated pitching corps that they finished with in the 2004 post-season, the Yankees appear substantially better off for 2005, but doubts still remain for the long haul for center field and 1st base. Many new faces will be showing up to the Yankees' Legends Field in Tampa this February, so much so that combining this off-season with last year's off-season, even an avid Yankee fan may have to think twice to name the entire place setting at this point.

Since breaking into the entertainment industry, he said, he has slowly been trying to break out of the stereotypical-Latino roles, such as criminals or service workers. "When an actor has to sell out to make money, it doesn't feel good," he said Thursday. "(But) you couldn't really get anything else if you were a Latino." In 22 years of acting, Vasquez said he has played a bellhop in "Beverly Hills Cop," a bartender on "The Love Boat," a bank robber in "Almost an Angel," a biker in "The Stranger," and a drug dealer on "Hill Street Blues."

In each case, the jury spoke clearly: There is no such thing as a small corruption; no acceptable level of misconduct by a public official, said United States Attorney Shelby. These individuals abused their position to elevate personal gain above the public good. Today, they learned the price of that selfish choice. We will continue to fully investigate and prosecute anyone who fails to uphold the obligations of his or her oath of office.
