Attorno a Nixon c'è sempre stato un attegiamento passionale di amore o odio che molta gente ha riversato sul film che d'altra parte non voleva suscitare questo genere di sentimenti. Così molta gente non ha capito il punto centrale di "Nixon". I drammaturgi, quando sono artisti, hanno il compito di calarsi nei panni del personaggio. Personalmente non amo Nixon. Ma come drammaturgo empatizzo con quella che è stata la sua angoscia, la sua sofferenza di essere umano, che per certi versi mi ricorda quella di mio padre. A quali criteri si è ispirato per il lavoro di ricerca storica su Nixon?
