Tras dirigir cortos y producciones para televisión, dio el salto a la gran pantalla. En 1985 se casó con la actriz Amy Irving, madre de su primer hijo Max y de la que se divorció en 1989. Desde 1991 está casado con la actriz Kate Capshaw. Han sido padres de tres hijos, Sasha, Sawyer y Destris Allyn y han adoptado otros dos, Theo y Mikaela. Es el padrino de Drew Barrymore. Forse non adesso che siamo "adulti" e smaliziati, ma quando eravamo bambini e tutto ci sembrava possibile, siamo stati convinti, anche solo per un secondo, di avere avvistato gli extraterrestri. Ma se a noi piace immaginare ogni tanto di averli visti, loro dall'altra parte ci vedono senz'altro. E ci studiano, ci contano, ci pesano. O almeno così ha pensato H.G. Welles nel 1898 quando pubblicò "La guerra dei mondi", il libro che fu già alla base dell'omonimo film-cult della fantascienza del 1953, e adesso ripreso da Steven Spielberg per farne un kolossal. Di alieni al cinema ne avevamo già visti parecchi, proprio Spielberg con E.T. e Incontri ravvicinati del terzo tipo ci aveva fornito due modi diversi di immaginarli. Con "La guerra dei mondi" il cineasta di Cincinnati affronta l'approccio violento tra la nostra cultura e quella aliena. Loro, "gli invasori" venuti per distruggere, noi "i terrestri" qui a difendere il territorio seppur l'imponenza delle forze avversarie non sembra lasciarci scampo.

Spielberg Dopo anni di gestazione e buona pace tra chi vede inconciliabile la linea registica di Stanley Kubrick con quella di Steven Spielberg, ecco finalmente il frutto di tanta fatica. Intanto è bene subito chiarire, per evitare ulteriori discussioni al riguardo, che "A.I." è un film di Steven Spielberg, che ha curato anche la sceneggiatura, nato da un'idea e da un progetto di Stanley Kubrick. E il risultato è Tutto parte in un futuro non troppo lontano dove l'evoluzione ha portato a costruire sofisticati robot in grado di provare emozioni. Uno dei primi prototipi viene affidato in via sperimentale ad una famiglia. In questo contesto intimo e raccolto si svolge la prima parte del film, a cui segue un momento di grande commozione prima di seguire l'evoluzione del piccolo David, sempre più umano e meno robot. Del resto quando si parla di madri, figli, abbandoni, le lacrime sono sempre in agguato, ma il regista riesce a colpire senza cadere in facili patetismi grazie alla forza della storia che racconta.

It's a great concept with a fun script, and the technical achievements displayed were revolutionary. But, come on, let's face it. There are more goofs and errors in this 127-minute span than one continuity editor should have in his entire career. Some of you may think it sacrilege to pick apart this film. Some of you may think it deserving. I simply consider it one more way to appreciate a fine piece of movie-making. Whatever your stand, I bet you'll have a hell of a lot of fun fast-forwarding and pausing your way through your copy to find them for yourself. And the list is now categorized! In the beginning, I simply listed the biggest or funniest mistakes. But as this site's traffic grew, I found it necessary to convert the list into the definitive catalog for JP errors. The categories are defined in the following flub legend: Flub Legend Flub - This is just an all-out flub. It's either too ridiculous to be believed or is too funny to ignore. These are the meat of the list. Microflub - A usually forgivable flub that's not so obvious. If you scrutinized any film the way I have this one, you'd probably find a lot of these. Giudizio Il film doveva girarlo Stanley Kubrick che ci ha lavorato per dieci anni, ma poi lo abbandonò. Spielberg ha ripreso in mano il progetto (Kubrick stesso voleva che lo dirigesse lui) e lo ha portato a termine volutamente entro l'anno 2001, data che ricorda il più famoso film di Kubrick. E' difficile trovare un omaggio così nobile, emozionante e significativo tra artisti di impressionante levatura, anche in forme di arte meno commerciali del cinema. Quindi quanto c'è di Kubrick e quanto di Spielberg? A film finito si può tranquillamente dire che di Kubrick è rimasta l'idea iniziale e alcune sequenze (La Fiera della Carne, la Città del Sesso e Manhattan sommersa) che non sarebbero mai venute in mente a Spielberg. Steven Spielberg, d'altro canto, data la mostruosa complessità del progetto, è riuscito solo in parte a tenere per le redini un film che sfugge da tutte le parti, affrontando temi così complessi da spaventare qualsiasi regista.
