Holidays And Holy Days -- Chanukah Hannukah Around the World by caryn shalita, one of the Phenomenal Women of the http//www.caryn.com/holidaychan.html; Hanukkah How-To from Jewish http://members.aol.com/porchfour/holidays/chanukah.htm
Extractions: of the candles lit each evening. The Origin of Chanukah Chanukah celebrates a victory of the Hebrews, i.e., the Jewish people, in 165 B.C.E. The battle was between Judah and his Maccabee ragtag Judean army against the Syrian-Greek oppressors, led by Antiochus Epiphanes. Antiochus' objective was to destroy the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. Judah's small group revolted to protect the Temple and achieve religious freedom. Lighting Chanukah candles each night of the eight day holiday one candle the first night, two the second, etc. commemorates the following legendary event: The Temple, as do all synagogues now, had a lamp burning in front of the ark or cabinet that holds the Torah scrolls. It is supposed to be lit all the time. The story goes that, after Antiochus was defeated, there was a shortage of oil for this lamp, i.e., only one day's supply. Miraculously, it is said, the oil lasted for a full eight days until an additional supply of oil could be procured. Hence, the eight days of candle lighting. Is this a true story? Who knows?

Here at Celiberal, we present all those Hollywood celebrity liberals (hence, celiberal) that have nothing better to do than complain about America, our President, and the brave men and women defending our way of life. We do this to expose these celiberals for what we feel they really are uninformed, misleading, money-hungry, two-faced, elitists who take unfair advantage of their popularity, and the media access it provides them, to express their controversial viewpoint." A new message board (opened Aug. '02) that offers a forum for those in the art/entertainment field who aren't completely left-wing in their views. As stated on their site: "What is a Creative Moderate? Our own definition is someone, who is moderate or even somewhat conservative politically and who is specifically in a creative field, such as a musician, actor, artist, writer. etc. A Creative Moderate is a response to the overwhelming number of creative liberals in the world. We also believe that a 'creative moderate' solution can sometimes be found for social and political problems."

Extractions: Mira Sorvino on acting to be more of your real self I have a lot going on inside me, and even though part of me is bookish and quiet and would like to hole up in a library, the other half really wants to express itself and acting allows for that. ... Marlon Brando once said to me, "Some people act in order to escape what they are; that is not the case with you. You act to become more of what you are. You act because you cannot be all the things you are in life." I think that was an astute observation; I don't look to escape myself, I look to distill certain aspects of myself in uncut form as a character. All of my characters are me, just little pieces of me. ... The disguise actually liberates me rather than hides me. It magnifies me. It's like I'm a schizophrenic with all these people living inside of me and then I let them out to play in various roles. Mira Sorvino Often the most amusing and gripping aspect of a movie is to watch ordinary actors or actresses (e.g., Melvyn Douglas and Ina Claire in Ninotchka) contend with a more mind-blowing presence a star personality who seems to draw life from a source beyond the mundane (e.g., Greta Garbo in the same film). This inner radiance is one sign of the animaand it is why actresses asked to portray the anima so often are spoken of a stars and are chosen more for their uncanny presence, whether or not they are particularly good at naturalistic characterization.

Extractions: Have you ever felt like the life you are living is not the one you originally had in mind? Back when you were a kid, there might have been other things you thought you were going to be, like a Broadway diva or a country doc. That was before so-called reality hit, back when the only voice you listened to was your own. ... Having the courage to live up to your own ideals is truly refreshing. When you move from thinking about it to actually doing it, you are amazed by the flow and the ease with which you can suddenly operate. You may also be struck by how long you waited to finally get on with the real joy in life. Getting there, however, can be the hard part, because it all begins with awareness. Often those voices in our heads, whether they belong to parents, well-meaning friends, former bosses, spouses, or even nosy neighbors, may have been playing so long and so loudly we can't even hear them. from article Finding Your Niche in Life

Professional athletes and musicians practice several hours each day, why should actors be any different? Find a class, do theater, work on scenes, monologues, etc. You can find out about acting coaches through word of mouth. If you admire someone's work, ask who they study with. Marketing YourselfPhotos: Since photos cost a lot of money, it's worth it to do some research. Find out about photographers through word of mouth. If you have seen photos that you like, ask who the photographer is. Meet with at least three to five photographers, and compare their work and price list. Look at their books. You should also have a certain chemistry with the photographer. After all, you will be spending several hours with him/her. Most importantly, you must look like your photos. There is nothing more annoying to casting directors when you do not look like your photos. Marketing YourselfResume: Your resume is an important marketing tool that gives professional information about yourself to casting directors, directors, and producers. It should have a clean easy-to-read format. You need to have the right photo and resume to get your foot in the door to that audition.
