Extractions: Actress in 1967, has just been released on DVD. And, yes, at age 82, ther funny lady became a newlywed again, marrying her junior high school sweetheart. But that's not all! The reason that the Divine Ms. C. has reason to be ecstatic is because her unique comedic and theatrical talents have been celebrated every Monday night over the past month at the Duplex, New York City's oldest continuing cabaret venue located in the heart of Greenwich Village. On June 16th, the immensely talented Richard Skipper continued his loving tribute to the funny lady, in the show that's polished to perfection yet so light and airy that it almost passes by us how detailed and well-crafted it is. This night, Carol's special musical guest was the incredible Sue Matsuki, whose personality and singing ability were perfectly suited for this celebration of music, comedy, and good old-fashioned fun. Emerging in a shimmering white gown and accompanied by his hard-working pianist John Bowen, Skipper-as-Channing kicked off the evening with "(We Got) Elegance", from "Hello Dolly". The diva wasted no time in endearing herself to the audience as only Carol could, declaring, "I've often said that there's no smile like a New York City smile, and here you are, proving it! You're sitting out here and smiling... and smiling... and smiling... like you have

Extractions: HOME January 6, 2003, Hartford, CT - Valerie Harper will star in the Tony(r) nominated hit Broadway comedy, The Tale of The Allergist's Wife coming to The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts from February 4-9, 2003 in the Phoenix Broadway Series. Ticket prices are $15.00-$55.00. Tickets for all performances are available by calling 860-987-5900, online at www.bushnell.org, or by visiting The Bushnell Box Office located at 166 Capitol Avenue in Hartford. For group information, please call 860-987-5959. Written by Charles Busch and directed by Lynne Meadow, The Tale of The Allergist's Wife is the smart and witty tale of Marjorie Taub (played by Valerie Harper), a culture-obsessed upper-middle-class New Yorker whose mid-life crisis deepens when her glamorous, childhood friend Lee (played by Jana Robbins) reappears for a mysterious visit. Marjorie's highly accomplished husband, Ira, is played by Mike Burstyn. The cast also includes Sondra James, as Marjorie's eccentrically vocal mother, and Jonathan Hova as Mohammed, the Taubs' philosophical doorman. This deliciously devious social satire is filled with wicked fun and delightful surprises. The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, was originally produced at Manhattan Theatre Club before opening on Broadway in November 2000 to unanimous critical acclaim. "An intelligently funny and satirically relevant comedy," raved John Simon in New York Magazine. "An uproarious comedy," enthused The New York Times. The Daily News calls it "Irresistibly hilarious" and Rosie O'Donnell says it's "the funniest play I have ever seen in my life." The Tale of the Allergist's Wife received three 2001 Tony Award nominations, including Best Play.

Extractions: Editor: There is certainly a need to clarify some important facts. First, there is no such entity as dog flu. Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (OADDL) has a standardized statement verifying this. There have only been a couple cases of Campylobacter-diarrhea in dogs statewide this year, also verified by OADDL. VetPro Laboratories in Tulsa has not seen a case of this diarrhea this year. Campylobacter is a bacteria that only sporadically, at most, infects dogs. When it does, it is regularly a secondary pathogen, invading the bowel after another organism, like parvovirus, damages the host dog. The cases and deaths assumed to be caused by Campylobacter have not been verified or positively diagnosed. So speculation only and Internet hysteria has simply created unwarranted concern. Your veterinarian will be able to effectively diagnose and treat cases of vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. But to be worried about a disease that occurs in less the one percent of all canine diarrheas is not necessary.

Extractions: By LYNN ISRAEL of the Tribunes staff Published Sunday, February 6, 2005 Artists who dont want to get pumped up about their craft are advised to stay far, far away from the upcoming ArtSmart 2005 conference in Jefferson City. One speaker in particular is creating a buzz, and if his résumé is a guide, Eric Booth will deliver to Missouri artists what motivational speaker Anthony Robbins gives would-be investors: a fire in the belly. Ochonicky said Missouri artists exposure to such speakers will ramp up their creative thinking. But artists also need to learn - she hopes at the workshop - how to explain to people what their work is all about, she added. The groups broader goal is to teach the public that art is more than a luxury. Ochonicky emphasizes that art plays a strong role in education, the economy and other areas of society.
Extractions: photo by Aubrey Reuben Is there a tavern in the town that wears winter's wonderland better than Tavern on the Green? One had to ask Jan. 23 as hordes of betuxed and begowned first-nighters plowed through the white stuff up to Central Park to celebrate the snow-capped premiere of Little Women How Randall L. Wreghitt , lead producer of the show, and his armada of associates ( Dani Davis, Ken Gentry, Chase Mishkin , Worldwide Entertainment, Ruben Brache, Lisa Vioni, Jana Robbins , Addiss Duke Associates, John and Danita Thomas, Thomas Keegan, Scott Freiman and Theatre Previews at Duke) arranged it, I'll never knowI never ask, I just enjoybut the gorgeously glistening, constantly twinkling post-play setting seemed magically in sync with the bulk of the show's first act, which takes place in the winter of discontent for four Concord damsels and their mother, who keep the homefires burning after the man of the house has marched off to the Civil War. Thanks to a formal-attire edict from the moneybags above, this was easily the best-looking Broadway assemblage of '05, if not the best-looking since the tuxedo-mandatory Tony to-do last June. Against all that seasonal garnishing and the traditional firefly lighting, everybody in attendance was beautiful. Even the orchestraa jazz triowas beautiful.
