Next Gregg Rainwater as Buck Cross (aka Running Buck) In 1990 he was named one of Tinseltown's "10 Sexiest Bachelors" along with Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and John F. Kennedy Jr. The same year US Magazine named him "Hottest Semi-known with Unexplored Star Potential." Alas that potential remains unexplored until today. After The Young Riders' cancellation in 1993, GREGG RAINWATER all but disappeared from the public view. He appeared as guest star in Walker Texas Ranger [playing Walker's cousin David Little Eagle] and has lent his voice a couple of times to the animated series Gargoyles as Natsilane. He also appeared on the big screen in the movie Streetfighter starring Jean Claude Van Damme. His absence on the big or small screens notwithstanding, Gregg has made an indelible impression on a lot of women during his run as Buck Cross on the Young Riders. Buck is the half-White, half-Kiowa who finds himself torn between two cultures which do not seem to appreciate his uniqueness. Fortunately, Buck has found a home with the Pony Express riders. Insightful and wise-beyond-his-years, Buck is one of the best scouts in the territory. For this reason, the army always looks to him for help in tracking outlaws or speaking with the various Indian tribes. Buck, or Running Buck as he is called by his Kiowa brethren, is the half brother of war chief Red Bear. He had a promised wife, a White young woman named Camille or Little Bird, but she was taken by White men during a raid in the Kiowa camp. A man with quiet humor [he became increasingly funny especially during the last season], Buck's only problem seems to be the people's prejudice against his red skin.

He's sort of wise and very observant and a bit mystical and spiritual, which I like about him a lot. He's real even-keeled, so it's a good balance, when you've got more volatile characters like Hickock and Cody. It's good to have the balance... because of Buck's calm nature, he has a soothing effect on the other riders. TM: Tell us about your special relationship with Travis Fine's character, Ike McSwain. GREGG: Yeah, we sort of got into the Pony Express together. Ike doesn't speak, and Buck has taught him to communicate through Indian hand symbols, which has opened up a lot of avenues for Ike, as far as expressing himself to the other riders and hopefully some day getting over the reasons why he doesn't speak. TM: Is your character going to be sort of a diplomatic liaison between the cowboys and the Indians? GREGG: There have been scenes and episodes where I was sort of the mediator between Teaspoon and some Apache horse traders. So yeah, he's sort of the link between the two worlds. TM: Did you do anything special to prepare for the role?

He was feeling pretty confident in the saddle when he decided to show off a little. "One day all six of us had just completed a training session and we were walking slowly down a trail back to the barn. I had seen the wrangler do a trick once where he was sitting on the horse and he lifted his right leg over the horse to the left side and then dropped down, hit the ground with his foot and the hopped back on," Gregg recalls. "Since my horse was walking along so quietly, I thought I'd just try it. After all, it looked pretty easy when he did it. So I lifted my leg over, touched it to the ground, and all of a sudden my horse took off at a full speed gallop. I had one foot in the stirrup and the other foot hanging off onto the ground. My arm was over the horses rump and I managed to get hold of the horn. There I was hanging off one side of the horse while he ran full speed ahead and everyone was watching in amazement. My heart was racing and I was in a panic," he says with his eyes growing wider with excitement.
