Extractions: Garland T. Harland, whose speech impediment is so severe that at times he is almost unable to speak, has other difficulties as well. ADVERTISEMENT Harland, 52, has been out of work since August, when he lost his job as a truck driver with a charitable organization. A single parent, Harland is caring for his four children, who are facing a bleak Christmas unless Harland gets help. Harland has been doing yard work, but that dried up with the arrival of cooler weather. The money he has goes mainly for utilities and rent, he said. "We do need food for Thanksgiving," Harland said.

Extractions: Conducted by DC Road Runners Club 24 runners including John Bastable from Oakville, Ontario (outside Toronto) enjoyed a 75-degree overcast night at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, running an hour in just under 60 minutes (race director Howell Posner whistled the race to a stop at 59:59). Glen Mays set a new DCRRC record, covering 17,700 meters (about 11.17 miles) in an hour. Glen also joins the prestigious Ten Mile Club . Janine Comer came, saw, and conquered among women, running 11,489 meters. The July date was rescheduled after the original race date in May was postponed because a rain-delayed lacrosse meet was postponed to the original race date. Note that the Washington area got more snow this year than Chicago, Denver, or Minneapolis; more rain than Portland or Seattle; and has been hotter than Atlanta or Miami. Not that we mind. 24 Finishers Ten Mile Club The following runners have completed 10 miles or more in one of the DCRRC One Hour Track Runs held since 1991: 1. Glen Mays 2003 11.00 miles 2. Foremost among them is Douglas Lantry, a Ph.D. candidate in the Hagley Program in the History of Technology, who served as the co-curator of the exhibition. Doug's research on the development of the Apollo space suit provided our starting point in the conceptualization of this project. Facile at "blue skying," he has been a steadfast collaborator, helping to shepherd the disjointed notions of the original planning discussions into the cohesive and compelling ideas which are reflected in this presentation.
