It may have been chilly and windy on the streets of downtown Boston as attendees gathered for NAIOPs Annual Conference in October, but inside there was dare we say it? a palpable sense of a coming economic thaw. First, there was good news about the economy. At the Conferences opening session, Stephen Fuller , Professor of Public Policy and Regional Development at George Mason University (and a NAIOP Distinguished Fellow) and Susan Hudson-Wilson , CEO of Property and Portfolio Research, drew a positive picture of accelerating GDP growth, continuing consumer spending and confidence and encouraging labor market indicators.

Extractions: The Partridges agree to do a concert for a real "captive audience" the convicts at the Federal Penitentiary. Inmate Hank Beuford's only reason for arranging the concert is to sell the Partridge Family several new love songs. When the show is over, Hank tries to see Shirley but can't get past Reuben Kincaid. To prevent them from leaving, Hank, who's a hospital orderly, uses his convict pal, Monty, as his patient and convinces the Warden that Monty's illness may be contagious. Then the Warden places the entire prison under quarantine which means Reuben, Shirley and the kids must spend the night in jail. The prison doctor's office will sleep only four, so Keith, Danny and Reuben are assigned to a regular cell amid the convicts. The next morning, after receiving a mysterious, threatening note, Shirley learns that Hank had stolen the music from Max, a scar-faced, mean-looking convict who is the leader of all the inmates. Everyone, especially Keith, wants to record the songs, but Max won't sell. Shirley finds out that Max is afraid he'll lose the respect of his "cons" if they know he wrote poetic love songs. By promising to publish the music under a pen name, Shirley finally gets Max to change his mind and sign a contract.

Extractions: Looking up and down the seemingly peaceful 1200 block of Milwaukee Street, longtime resident Darby McNeal observes that there's "inhibition all over the block." That may be an understatement. After film crews from the miniseries version of The Shining descended on the block for a single day of shooting last month, angry residents complained to the cityand to the woman whose house was filmedthat their street was clogged with trailers, trucks, loud generators and rude crew members. The ill will spilled over to relations between neighbors, between the film crew and the neighborhood and between the mayor's office and the film crew.

Project 51: Events Randy Mantooth (with Squad 51), Tim Donnelly, Marco Lopez, ron pinkard and Mike Stoker appeared at an Emergency! Fest sponsored by the Hyattsville http://www.clafma.org/project51/project51events.html
Extractions: Randy Mantooth made a surprise appearance at the opening ceremonies on Friday, March 24th. Nearly 2,000 attendees gave Randy Mantooth a standing ovation. On Saturday and Sunday, Randy greeted fans at the Project 51 booth, signing autographs, posing for photos, and listening to many stories about how he and "Emergency!" inspired the career choices of paramedics, nurses, firefighters and even a few physicians. A great time was had by all. Los Angeles County EMS Agency Medical Conference - April 10/11 EMS perspectives on Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. April 10 at the evening reception, Randy Mantooth and Kevin Tighe were presented with an Honorary Paramedic certificate along with Dr. Ronald Stewart (First Paramedic Training Institute Medical Director). KEVIN TIGHE TO FILM A PILOT FOR TV IN ENGLAND Unfortunately (fortunate for him), Kevin Tighe was scheduled to be in England during the remainder of the Project 51 schedule. He was cast in a role for a pilot of a TV series that was filmed there. "We will miss him on the cross-country tour but we wish him well. In the acting profession, those who turn down roles usually don't get called again."
Project 51: Memories costars Tim Donnelly, Marco Lopez, ron pinkard and Mike Stoker, and they also signed autographs at the event. The fans stormed their signing table. http://www.clafma.org/project51/project51memories2.html
Extractions: Ed Self On May 16th we were escorted into the Presidential Reception Suite of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History. It was paneled in dark wood, with folding chairs aligned in front of the podium and presentation tables. On these tables sat our treasures, a biophone, defibrillator, and other medical paraphernalia used in the television series "Emergency!" during the 1970's. Many other items had been donated by James O. Page, our Executive Director, and publisher of JEMS Magazine. Two mannequins stood vigil, garbed in helmets and turnout coats worn by series stars Kevin Tighe and Randolph Mantooth. Outside the Museum, Squad 51, the vehicle that carried the concept of pre-hospital emergency care to television viewers throughout the world, sat glistening in the morning sun, having been completely restored to its original, unique beauty. Among those who had traveled the tortuous path to this incredible moment, I was the only owner of a digital video camera and thus serving as videographer. The camera shook in my hands as I zoomed in on Randy recounting the vision of Robert A. Cinader, who created the show in the belief that it could be much more than just another piece of escapist fare. Now we were living the proof of his vision, twenty-two years after the series had ceased production and eighteen years after his death. Randy had already mentioned all of the people present who participated in Project 51, the engine that drove the machine that had brought us here, and the only figures my camera could find who didn't appear deeply moved, were the mannequins.
