Extractions: By Eric D. Lehman Zealand Falls With exuberant, too-brisk pushes, Ryan and I tramped up the Bridle Path in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The trifling three-and-a-half mile trail seemed unusually difficult with our full backpacks. We stopped, too soon after our last break, and sampled some dried papaya. Ryan also devoured our supply of homemade bannock, but I found the thick bread hard to swallow. And then, after the last of our cold water disappeared, we hit a cliff and at last had views of Franconia Ridge, green and grey and bare. Rocky peaks sloped into tree-lined dells and valleys. The forest spattered with warm sunlight. Sounds of birdsong and rushing brooks down in the valley brought me back to why I was there. Adventure. My friend and I were making a week-long traverse from hut to hut. Not the greatest challenge, perhaps, but we had never done anything like it before. I had hiked on several overnights through the years, but nothing like the six night trek we were attempting now. I had spent months preparing, poring over the topo maps and visualizing each day. Ryan did not know what to expect and was excited, thrilled, and scared when he first saw the mountains, driving past Mount Moosilauke. "Oh, wow!" At the National Forest headquarters I showed Ryan the three-dimensional map of our route. It looked intimidating. I wasn't worried, though. In my mind, the journey was already complete.

Ryan has songs on two of the Generation Productions ( Charlie Hall 's independent production company) compilations Pray e rs and Worship Volume 1 and 2 Discography Somewhere Near The Sofa was recorded in a small home in Oklahoma City, in hopes to capture the basic organic feel in which most of the songs were written. The CD is a raw rhythmic acoustic project with hints of electronica mixed in with harmonies and melodic ambient sounds, the overall feel of the project is worshipful but artistic in nature and in production. Simple but nice to listen to. It was produced by Will Hunt (Apt. Core of Rockettown) in his home studio and mastered at West 2nd Recording Studio.

Mt. Stuart - North Ridge Looking up the North Ridge from the notch. Photo ryan Allen. We were finally inthe sun, and after checking out the ridge and fueling up with food and http://www.alpinedave.com/stuart/stuart_nridge.html
Extractions: Mt. Stuart from Long's Pass. Photo: Ryan Allen Ryan and I were planning on tackling the complete North Ridge of Stuart when we left the car at 7:30 pm Friday night. We hiked in to ingalls lake in a quick hour and a half, and after fumbling around trying to traverse the lake on the right, we decided to bivi earlier than expected. We laid out our bivi sacs and crawled in with our meager bivi clothes on. I brought a down jacket and long underwear, Ryan had extra fleece and a special wool hat. We froze our freaking butts off that night. After the alarm went off at 5:00 am, I checked my watch's temperature reading: 39 degrees. (and it had gotten warmer out) We had both slept awfully, with at most 2 hours of sleep. Soon we were hiking around the proper side of the lake (West), just 100 yards behind a party that had passed through our bivi the night before. At the edge of the lake we filled our water bottles, 3 Liters for me, and headed off on a traverse towards Stuart Pass. For this trip I had reluctantly brought my platypus"water-bag". The stupid hose kept leaking on me, and Ryan took many opportunities to tell me how much he didn't like em. He was laughing then, oh yes, until he ran out! There are climbers paths leading to Stuart pass, and we were soon at a trail junction on what is roughly the pass. Looking up on the North side of Stuart pass you see steep craggy slopes. We figured that this trail leading off the other side must be the path to Goat Pass. It's really well worn, isn't it After about 5 minutes we notice that the trail seems to be leading us waaaayy in the wrong direction, and that there are horse prints all around. Ug. Back up to the pass. From here we just stayed on the ridge crest, scrambling at times, until we were at the base of the West Ridge. The party we'd seen earlier in the morning was now starting up the West Ridge (My friend Greg's party, incidentally). From here the trail to Goat Pass was obvious, so we scrambled down and over boulderfields until reaching the sandy trails back up to the pass.

Meg Ryan can add another notch to her romantic comedy belt with the delightfully fun, though thoroughly implausible, "Kate and Leopold." Moviegoers should check reason and logic at the door, and prepare for a thoroughly enchanting romp with two dynamic leading actors. The onscreen teaming of Meg Ryan (Kate) and Hugh Jackman (Leopold) pulsates with electricity, their performances perfectly complimenting each other and guiding the film smoothly above its rocky premise. Kate is a modern career woman whose job as a market researcher seems to have sapped the very spirit from her soul. Leopold is the Third Duke of Albany, rich in title but poor of pocket. Kate's eccentric ex-boyfriend - and upstairs neighbor - Stuart (Live Schreiber) discovers how to travel back in time to 19th Century where he sneaks a peek at Leopold, his ancestor who will, in time, invent the elevator. Leopold catches Stuart clicking away with his little spy camera and chases him down, falling with him through the time portal and landing in 2001. Waking from his time travel feeling disoriented, Leopold listens incredulously as Stuart describes, unconvincingly, how he leaped forward to 2001. Stuart does an equally unconvincing job at making Kate believe Leopold is from the past. Kate is a no-nonsense, shoot from the hip, businesswoman who has no time for time travel silliness. Leopold realizes he's not in Kansas anymore, but can't fathom where - or when - he is.
Flying The Ryan SC-W My plane is currently limited to one notch of flap due to a modification by and another notch of drag flap, that the ryan can be landed very short. http://www.russellw.com/planes/ryan/flying.htm
Extractions: Flying the Ryan SC-W Home Williams Aircraft Collection Ryan SC-W The SC-W is one of those rare planes that flies as good as it looks. It is a joy in the air. Preflight begins with a cockpit inspection, reached by climbing up the narrow wingwalk on either side of the fuselage. The canopy is opened by twisting on the handle atop the canopy frame, and it slides back. Inside the cockpit, the first thing to check is the fuel valve, which is buried underneath the fuel tank. The fuel tank is located directly in front of the cabin and above the rudder pedals, just the place to spill fuel in your lap in case of an accident! While up on the wing, the single fuel tank is visually checked for fuel level. The cap is in the center of the fuselage just in front of the windshield. The fuel gauge seems pretty accurate and is a direct-reading window on the back of the fuel tank, similar to the gauge in an Aeronca Champ. The remainder of the preflight is pretty standard beyond checking the engine for hydraulic lock by turning over the prop manually. One annoying mis-feature of this airplane is that the cowling has no oil door, so the entire cowling must be opened up to check the oil level. This involves removing 3 screws and undoing the cowling latches at the bottom, then avoiding the oil drips. I plan to add an oil door to the left side of the cowling to alleviate this problem. Like most Warner-engined aircraft, the Ryan has no impulse couplings for the engine magnetos. This makes starting a little more interesting and a magneto timing retard control is provided to ease the pain. The Ryan usually starts up with three shots of primer, about 1/2 inch of ignition retard, and slight throttle pumping while cranking. After starting it is important to return the magneto timing control to the full advance position or else the engine won't make power.

Colorado State Collegian - "Kung Fu Hustle" Kicks It Up A Notch Kung Fu Hustle kicks it up a notch. By ryan Skeels. April 25, 2005. Stephen Chowhas made quite the impression on the film industry over the past 10 http://www.collegian.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/04/25/426c8a963c6aa
Extractions: Stephen Chow has made quite the impression on the film industry over the past 10 years. With his 2001 Japanese release of "Shaolin Soccer," he took the lead for highest-grossing Hong Kong movie ever made. Well, Chow's back bigger and badder this time as director and lead actor in his latest and possibly greatest, "Kung Fu Hustle." Having been released everywhere but the United States, "Kung Fu Hustle" has already topped "Shaolin Soccer" and is sure to double the profit again now that Americans are blessed with the opportunity to witness this martial-arts madness. At the same time, the Ax Gang is trying to gain control of one of the most coveted neighborhoods around "Pig Sty Ally," which is protected by a motley crew of superbly skilled kung fu masters in disguise. Confronted with a variety of obstacles and an ultimate fighter, rightfully called The Beast, Sing must do some digging and overcome the most challenging situations of his life. Chow's form of movie making is called "Mo Lei Tau" in Hong Kong, a nonsensical style of film integrating a sort of cartoon-esque feel with ultra-violence and superhero-like action. In the case of "Kung Fu Hustle," he also mixes in an old Western feel and sets the story in the '30s, giving audiences a super fun story to watch.
