LOS ANGELES (CNN) Actor Nick Nolte is free on $2,500 bail after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday. Nolte, 61, failed a field sobriety test after being pulled over by a CHP officer Wednesday on the Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu, said Capt. Dan Bower, a Highway Patrol spokesman. A CHP officer was giving someone a ticket when he heard tires squealing and saw a black Mercedes swerving across the highway, Bower said. The officer pulled over the vehicle, gave Nolte the field sobriety test and took him to a highway patrol station after he failed. There was no immediate comment from Nolte or his lawyers.

Tranne, forse, nel personaggio della Houston, che viene degradata a normale ficcanaso; invece nel romanzo era una di quelle persone che pensano davvero di poter determinare il destino di chi le circonda. Un Principe Romano Squattrinato sposa la Figlia del Ricco Americano; la sua Amante, amica d'infanzia della figlia, ne sposa il padre. Poi l'attrazione tra i due riprende, e incrina l'armonia delle simmetrie tra le due coppie. Ma lo Squattrinato e' anche un padre tenero, una brava persona, un marito innamorato della moglie; il ricco e sua figlia sono anche legati da un rapporto intensissimo e psicologicamente un po' malsano, l'amante e' anche una povera orfana senza mezzi di sostentamento e ben poche carte da giocare, se non una certa bellezza fisica (Uma Thurman) e una ben misera furbizia. Il padre e' anche un tiranno che impone la sua volontà al mondo circostante con la forza del suo denaro, e un ben misero amatore d'arte - mentre in principe, nella cui famiglia i grandi artisti di fronte ai quali il ricco americano colto s'inchina erano considerati dipendenti pagati, ha innato il senso dell'autentico e del falso.

Nick Nolte, in uno dei suoi migliori ruoli, rende palpabile il confuso stato d'animo di Bob. Il suo sguardo a tratti furbo e a tratti assente, il look trasandato e il suo atteggiamento scanzonato racchiudono in pieno l'essenza di questo splendido personaggio, che coinvolge dall'inizio alla fine, e fa sì che l'attenzione dello spettatore sia focalizzata su di lui.
